Old Road

  1. Signs on the freeway said the Old Road was closed between Mt White and
Somersby (both in NSW, Smee) this arvo. Not an on going problem I hope,
    anyone know?

A motorcyclist was killed when his bike was clipped by a car on the
NSW Central Coast, police said today.

The accident happened on the Old Pacific Highway, between Somersby and
    Mount White, about 2pm (AEDT).

A P-plate driver "lost control of his car and veered to the wrong side
of the road, where he deflected two motorbikes", a police spokesman
    said.

"One of the motorcyclists died at the scene and the other was conveyed
to Gosford Hospital with minor injuries."

Police were interviewing the driver and closed the highway as crash
    investigators looked into the accident.

The age of the motorcyclist was not known.

The death follows that of a young woman whose car ran off the road and
overturned in a paddock in south-west NSW today.

She was driving a VT Commodore sedan along Wargin Road, West Wyalong,
when the car left the road about 4.30am.

She was thrown from the car and died on impact, an ambulance spokesman
    said.

A 17-year-old male passenger was trapped in the car and had to be cut
    out by emergency crews.

    "Deflected?"

Cop-speak is getting stranger and stranger.

John Littler is of the opinion:
So for the next three weeks police will be targeting loud exhausts on the
old road, because that's clearly what caused the crash...

Doubt it. You don't get double flybuys for loud exhausts.

  8. No, it wasn't just that they had loud exhausts, I'll bet they were speeding!
If you don't speed, you won't have an accident. Haven't you seen the ads?

Sadly, the number of 'boy racers' who try their best on the Old Road in
their minis etc. rarely keep to their own side of the road from my
experience. I've also noticed quite an increase in these groups lately -
wonder if this has anything to do with the new skirmish facility at Mt White
exposing the beloved OPH to a wider and likely 'appreciative' audience??
    :)

Well, if all else fails, you could always try one of them
microsleeps and/or a dodgy purple shirt.

After seeing just one too many of those signs, I tried a 'microsleep'. After
about three seconds I got nervous and opened my eyes again. Fortunately I
    was still on the road.
