    ....three remaining.

Sold the race bike for the princely sum of £2,300 and helped
to load it into the back of a van this morning. Sad to see it
go, but it never once looked me in the eyes and told me it
loved me, although it did try to kick me off when riding it
    a few times.

    *sniff*

Now to get this shitty CBR400 cleaned up and back together
    and get rid of that.

    Fickle bastards, race bikes.
And now, like the many of the rest of us, you'll be able to say "the
older I get, the faster I was"

Not at all. Now you've retired you can come out of retirement and do
    even more stupid things.

How do you fancy doing the Tuareg Rally in 2012?

I talked darsy into it earlier.

Mind you, he was beyond Lille levels of drunk and game for jumping off
Angel Falls without a parachute for a chuckle, so his heart may not
    really have been in it.

Yes. You'd have to change the wheels to be able to get decent desert
tyres but once that's done you're laughing.

    You're in then?

    Good man.

You do realise that getting him to agree to do it doesn't get you off
    the hook?
If he's said he's going then he means it. You can criticise him for a
lot of things but he's a man of his word.

I've toyed with the idea of using the KTM but the fact it didn't get
further than Guildford without breaking down last time doesn't fill me
    with desert-bound confidence.

The only bike I'd consider using, assuming I didn't have to ride it
there & back & was on a budget, is an XR400R.

There's enough choices out there to last a life time but I'm coming
round to the idea that blowing a grand on my Tenere to get it up to
spec is a better idea than blowing three grand on an old KTM that'll
probably throw it's guts up the first time it hits a sand dune.

I wasn't so drunk that I don't remember agreeing to it. But,
    crucially, I was drunk.
    hahah
