My neighbour, with whom I share my drive has been building this in the
garage for the last couple of years.

Seems strange it sitting in the driveway outside!

    Really nice. CIHAGM?

What engine did you use? When are you getting its air safety cert?

    Snot me building it.
But I hope to have a go once it's permit is sorted. Should be around
September this year after painting and air tests at Fowlmere.
The engine is a Lycoming 360 160 Hp.

Depending on what sort of home build it is really.
Getting a permit on an approved design like the Vans is quite easy. Getting
an individual Permit on something of unknown design can be a real big can of
    worms!
Best talk to your local PFA guy and see what they recommend.

If any one is interested, I'll try and let you know when it's going for it's
    test flight.

  7. Price isn't too bad, is it?

What I was wondering about was how he's going to get it to an airfield.
Are the wings easily detachable on that, or will he have to leave final
wing joining until he gets hangar space?

Did you include the Engine (more than the kit),
the propeller (less than the kit), the avionics/instruments
    (whatever you want)?

The wings come off most aircraft for transportation
and I am sure that this one will not be different,
but in most cases you do not want to do it every day.
There are though exceptions. So, no issue to get it to
an airport once but not so sure about taking it there
    for every flight.

Folding wings would be good -

or maybe not. (second picture down)

Not much different to me hanging over the fence dribbling ;o)

You'd be amazed the number of people that stop when driving past and come
    and chat to him!

The wings are fairly easily detachable. Not a quick release mind!
It's going by trailer where the wings will be fitted for painting, then, as
I understand it, the wings will be taken off again and it'll be trailered to
Fowlmere for it's test. If all goes ok, and when the owner has completed a
couple of hours type conversion, and is happy flying it, he'll move it to
it's home filed at Andrewsfield, Stebbing.

Still got quite a bit to do on it, and the engine hasn't yet been run in the
frame, it has however been fully tested and bench run.

The kit price isn't too bad really. The labour to assemble is free (in a
    manner of speaking!)
    About 3000 hours of it!
Engine was from a scrapped (wing spar rot) Piper Twin Comanche, with less
than 150 hours on it. Fully serviced and tested.
Prop (in this instance, wooden) was handbuilt by a prop builder locally. It
could have had a wobbly prop on it, but the extra certification and
servicing would have made the upkeep cost's much higher, and for little
    gain.
Avionics fit is fantastic on this one! Gps's full couple autopilot (3 axis!)
Vor, ADF (I think as it's IFR capable!) All electronic engine managemnet and
more buttons and dials than a twddly thing!
Not folding wings, but as you say, removable as are all (including
airliners) wings. It's a fair job as not only fuel lines and control rods
etc, but a lot of electrics as well. A number of the various antennas are in
the wings as well as the lights and strobes.
One fully re-assembled after painting, and ready for test flying I doubt the
wings will come off again. The bolts for the final fit of the wings are a
_very_ good interference fit! Getting them out will be a _very_
    interesting task for someone!!

I wouldn't even be slightly amazed. Whenever I've taken a model heli out
onto the drive to put in the car, someone ALWAYS seems to be there who wants
chapter and verse about them. A full sized plank on the drive would be even
    more "atractive" I'm sure.

I wonder if he'll get the same questions asked... How high does it go, how
fast does it go, how far does it go, how much does it cost, etc.

Oh yes, they be the ones! ;o)
Had a guy stop yesterday to sing the virtues of the Grumman AA5 and what a
good plane this will be. He looked a tad embarrassed after about 15 minutes
of spouting off when Neighbour quietly points out the considerable
differences to this and an AA5, and that this is most certainly not one!
    Exit "promptly" one embarrassed fellow!

The one I like is, "how many miles to the gallon then, mate?"

I still think the best one is "What happens if the engine stops?".

"It goes quiet" is the only response.
