Hypotethically speaking, if one were to purchase something online and
then the vendor delivers two of the product when only one was requested
and paid for, does the vendor have any rights to ask for the extra
    product back?

Is there a specific time limit after which the recipient may consider
the extra item to be theirs for keeps?

Of course - it's a mistake by them. At their expense though - you have no
obligation to post it. They can either collect or you can insist on them
sending you funds up front to cover postage etc
No. Well, I suppose until limitation has passed which is 6 years away.

Deny receiving it then bung it on Ebay in a couple of months time.

Any criminal conviction arising from following this advise is of no
    interest to me btw.

Did it state on the delivery note/picking list that two were delivered?

I think it's only right and proper that they're informed of their mistake
and (at their expense) have the 2nd item returned.
Probably, but it's a "bit" of a pikey trick isn't it?

Send me the spare sex-toy and I'll pop it on eBay for you.

No idea, but I'm quite comfortable with the three driveshafts I received
when I ordered two. I believe the legal term when the vendor realises his
    mistake is "go **** yourself"
Of course, you may have to find another vendor for repeat orders if the
present one takes the hump, but there are plenty about unless you deal in
    rare parts.

  9. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Suze belched forth and ejected the following:
I didn't have a duplicate item sent but had other items sent which I
didn't order - quite a high value, actually and they'd made a mistake
with the order pricing, too charging me about half what it should've
been. They were aware they'd made a mistake after a brief telephone
conversation but didn't ask for it back and didn't charge me the extra.

Not quite the same, but some years ago I bought a laser printer and
some bits&bobs on my Amex card from some place in Watford. This was in
the early days, when you were looking at a grand a a half, so it was
quite an outlay. The card transaction was done an old-fashioned
    imprinting machine only.

At the end of the month, I made sure I had transferred enough from the
company account to cover it, but oddly it didn't appear on my Amex
bill. Next month the same thing happened, and the month after.

A few months later I rang Amex and asked them, purley hypothetically,
what the score was - they said that in theory the bill could be put
through at any time and there was no limitation on it. In practice,
once the time had passsed a full calendar year and a tax year end I
assumed that they'd simply lost the slip and would never bill for it,
and indeed this proved to be the case.

    Which was nice.

About 3-4 years ago, a chap at work bought a car on his debit card (£12k
loan, into bank, use debit card to pay garage).

Transaction went through, but oddly it was credited back to his account
    a few days later.

After about 6 months of waiting he used the £12k to repay the loan and
switched banks. Not heard a thing since.

Sorry, this is a hypothetical question so can't say. I'm not sure what
    difference it would make anyway?

This probably depends upon the organisation concerned. If it's a small
family owned or one-man band then sure. But let's say it's a huge multi-
national corporation, would you be so keen to return it?

What's wrong with Seats? I thought they were meant to be good (not that
    I'd ever buy a front-wheel drive).
