Sitting having lunch in the canteen at work, which is next to the
railway line, and the Duke of Gloucester #71000 steams past.

    Which was nice.

  3. Interesting stuff about the cack-handedness of the construction faults.
I suppose there was an element of just using what was to hand at the
time, and **** the design, because it was a dying technology anyway.

Teach a man to fish and he and his pikey mates will have the
river cleaned out in a day.

My dad was a fireman on the Sir Nigel Gresley, took me on the footplate when
    I was a kid.

I'll leave it to you to make the lewd comments about my dad taking me on the
    footplate.

  7. Probably my mate Bob driving it.

He's one of a select few who hold mainline licenses to drive them from A to
    B.

That's all he does for a living, driving steam trains from oop norf to dahn
    sarf etc etc etc

Not that I'm jealous at all.

There are loads of drivers who hold mainline steam licences.

Is he part of EWS's SVG or WC?

  9. Didn't realise that, I thought that because he gets shunted all over the
place that there must only be a few.
I have no idea, I guess he works out of Didcot living here in Grove.

What do they stand for - I'll ask him.

"Engines, Wagons and Slaves" - Most of their depots have steam drivers.

I'd imagine he's feeling concerned? The freight sector appears to be on
the verge of a deregulated collapse.
