This section 127 has the potential to stifle all kinds of comment. It says
it is an offence to send anything electronically that is "of grossly
offensive or of an indecent, obscene, or menacing character, or sent for the
purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to others,
even if those messages are never received." As far as I can see that
describes a failrly high percentage of what currently gets posted to usenet.
I think the best subversive tactic would be to inundate the police with
complaints. The next person who calls me a **** is going daaahn...

    Precisely.
It's down to someone complaining and the CPS taking it up. Then BANG

Wait until they start using it against Journos

It seems to be my destiny at the moment to disagree with you about anything
to do with moslem countries. So I shall embrace it, and say: if you ever go
to Iran, bring back a suitcase full of saffron. You can get good saffron in
other places, but in Iran it's superb. Your suitcase (and 100m around it)
will smell fantastic, and you'll change your mind about "no taste" when you
    use it.

Hang on a minute. You posted the word "BANG", which is a bit bomby. That
makes me feel menaced and anxious. But now I've nearly posted it too...and
even though I haven't sent this yet it seems that I might have already
committed an offence. I think I may have to turn myself in.

I've used it and it just doesn't do anything for me, other than colour.

As for going to Iran, maybe to marvel at a 30km wide obsidian glass
    plate...... ;o)

Now if we were all to post something along those lines...

Just how crowded are the prisons these days?

Doesn't matter. I've wired all the prison gates with remote control
    bombs.

The police just love non-crimes, much easier to convict against
than when dealing with seasoned criminals.

I was recently involved with a police matter where a citizen had
    complained of wireless "hacking".

Turns out that Macintoshes can be set to seek for and to
connect to any unsecured access point. A Mac
owners 'neighbour' succeeded in getting police
time to trace the Mac owner (who perhaps foolishly
used his full real name as the 'hostname')
and call his mobile phone (otherwise unlisted) and enquire
about wireless hacking activities. MAC owner is completely
clueless about IT and uses 3G dongle for internet.

Want to complain about scrote harassment - too busy,
want to complain about non-crimes - what can we do
for you sir, we have unlimited recources available to
    trace and investigate non-criminals.

    Mad as hatters.
