  3. "It's unwise to pay too much, but it's unwise to pay too little. When
you pay too much you lose a little money, that is all. When you pay too
little you sometimes lose everything, because the thing that you bought
was incapable of doing the thing you bought it to do. The common law of
business balance, prohibits paying a little and getting a lot, it can't
be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it's as well to add
something for the risk you run. And if you do that you will have enough
to pay for something better in the first place"

That might be a bit subtle for Robbo, Paul.

  6. Ruskin also said:

"Say all you have to say in the fewest possible words, or your reader
will be sure to skip them; and in the plainest possible words or he
    will certainly misunderstand them."

So, linking both pieces of philosophy, how about:

"There is scarcely anything in the world that some man cannot make a
little worse, and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on
price alone is this man's lawful prey."

  7. Scott Leathers "Road Airflow" jacket. CE marked, conforms to EN 13595
and features EN 1621-1 shoulder and elbow protectors and EN 1621-2 back
protector. As worn by the Metropolitan Police and, according to
"Rattie" (and also the Met's Head of Uniform Services), they love it!

Any idea on the pricing as, as you know, the last time I looked at
their website it was lacking key details?

I took your advice from an earlier thread and emailed (5pm on the 5th)
Scott Leathers asking for availability and pricing but haven't had a
    reply yet.

  10. I have just spoken with Scott Leathers' MD, Jim Aird. He informs me the
finalisation of their web site redesign is taking place this week and
it should go live in the next two days. The new jackets will be
    included.

In the meantime, he invites anyone interested in purchasing either of
the two models of CE jacket ("New Road" - waterproof - or "Road
Airflow" - vented) to telephone and speak to him personally on 01833
631526. That specifically includes you, Nick. :)

  12. I wonder if he ever paid too much for a painting, hence the pholisiphy.

  17. The Road Airflow isn't waterproof. The "New Road" is, however.

  20. It will and it won't. :) It will have vents, but it will be slightly
heavier than a conventional textile jacket - which is why a Scott
jacket will exceed 12 seconds in the impact abrasion test, whereas most
mainstream textile clothings truggles to get near one second.
