  1. Looks like the BBC have got a little over enthusiastic in reporting Mr
    Mubarak's departure.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-12436566

And Labour leader David Miliband offered his congratulations, adding:
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^
"Now the task must be to create that democratic future that people have
    today won."

So a second coup - Ed the Red is dead ?!!??

The usual BBC shite. And you people willingly _pay_ to watch that channel?
I'd love to know in what way an uprising of =< 2,500,000 people forcing the
resignation of a President in a country with 80,000,000 people is
    'democratic'.

So overthrowing a military dictator is undemocratic?

I wouldn't worry. Des probably believes The Sun when 2M people went to Hyde
Park to protest the upcoming war in Iraq - "So what if 2M people demonstrated,
58M people stayed at home" was the headline (or the gist of it).

Mubarak has remained in power after `winning' a number of single
candidate elections, followed by a rigged multi-candidate election. He
was planning to hand power on to his son. He used the security
services to make sure that he held on to power and to make sure that
there would be no danger of of a fair election or of a democratic
    election.

Of course, if you think Egypt is, or was, the other democracy in the
Middle East besides Israel, feel free to make your case.

Feeling a bit nervous Des? When the elections come around, there is
going to be another fundi state right on your doorstep.

Wtf were the yanks thinking? Or are they going to prop up another
    puppet government like Kazis.

_If_ the elections come around, dear boy. Unfortunately, Arabs have shown
that when it comes to 'democracy', they're not very good at getting it
    right.

I'm generally accustomed to UKRM's having the intelligence of a gerbil and

Lol! To me it's not like it isn't painted large and clear on any
neighbouring wall. My genuine puzzlement is what the **** the sceptics
are up to? There is either a complete blinder I can't see (possibly not
surprising, I am cunted) or the ball is, as they say, in the wrong ball
    park.

I've read recently that the CIA Director (or one of them) has been forced
to resign after designating the Muslim Brotherhood as 'secular' and
'non-violent'. So if there are balls involved, it's that someone isn't on
    it.

I still haven't given up on Obama.. but soon shall, I fear.

So much stuff and nonesense about nothing. What's to worry about.
Fair and Free elections. You get one of two outcomes and don't have to
worry how many people came out on the streets.

I'm not sure what you expect. The US is either damned for interfering,
or damned for not interfering. I think it's done the right thing by
stating their wish for a democratic government while staying out of
the game. Any overt movement would be condemned by virtually all in
the Mideast and be counterproductive. There were many placards during
the revolution that asked the US to "butt out," and let the Egyptians
decide, and that's precisely what Washington did. Arabs have always
condemned the US for being one-sided, but US aid to Egypt was for many
years second only to Israel, largely because Mubarek was a calming
force in the region. Word on the street says that if elections are
held soon, (within 60 days by law,) extremist forces stand a better
chance of winning, so there were good reasons for patience and
caution, but I don't recall any reports that Obama was trying to keep
Mubarek in power - just the opposite, actually.
