Israel gets very nervous if it looks as if they might not get it.
It's much like the development of capitalism almost anywhere.

    That doesn't look good:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12462491
"Members of Iran's parliament have called for opposition leaders Mir Hossein
Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi to be tried and executed"

The organisation that has been constructed under the heading "Revolutionary
Guard", which is military, political, economic and religious makes any
overthrow of the regime a pretty daunting prospect. Almost impossible.
    Almost but not completely.

Kinda where Egypt would be if the Army had backed their Pres and used
    Gunships to eliminate protestors.

No, it's recognising an unfortunate fact. Saying, 'all Arabs are cunts'
would be 'racism', but then I've never said such a thing - mainly as I
don't think it. But Arabs _don't_ do 'democracy' [1]. I hope that one day
    they manage it, though.

[1] although of course, this depends on your definition of 'democracy'...
    as well as of 'Arab'..

To be fair, he is hampered by two factors. First, George W. Bush was
without a doubt the worst President that the United States has ever seen.
One of the advantages of this is that he singlehandedly put paid to
the notion of an American empire so belovèd by his neocon backers. As a
result, Obama was very much fucked before he even got sworn in. No one
could have inherited such a clusterfuck of truly Biblical proportions, and
been anything other than a 'mediocre' president.

The other thing that is working against him is that he 'reigns' (if you
will) over a political and economic system which has its roots in
capitalism. Capitalism is not working, never has and never can work for
the simple reason that it depends for its continued existence upon the
creation of a deprived underclass and the social concerns which unfailingly
accompany such systems. The time has come to dismantle the system and
start anew, but even if Obama knows this, he can't say it. Any candidate
in just about any jurisdiction who pointed out that iniquity of capitalism
cannot be allowed to continue, would be unelectable. Any incumbent
president or prime minister who said it would be assassinated within hours.

The next decade is going to be .. 'interesting'.

Sending planes to evacuate diplomats during a revolution, or using
planes to help Belgian and French rescue efforts, (just 2 examples of
many,) is hardly interference. That list is interesting, but moot.
Again, the list of countries the US has interfered with is shorter
than those it has not, meaning it does not _usually_ interfere.

  13. It is going to take more than a decade.

China is interesting. I can't get a handle on how their system is working
but it is different to the capitalism we "enjoy" in the west. How it
develops and how ours changes as a result of this may well be the key.

No it won't. Within five years, a combination of i) water shortages, ii)
food shortages [1], iii) pension systems that are basically broke and iv)
social security systems that collapse under the strain of an ageing
population .. expect civil unrest going to civil war, riots and crime (by
which I mean crimes of violence towards the person and not just public
order offences) rates which will soar. The added 'bonus' of probably 2.5 -
4 billion deaths due to climate change and probably another ten million who
will die when Iran attacks Israel with a nuclear bomb and Israel
retaliates, and, well.. at least there's a silver lining, and that is that
planetary overcrowding won't be much of a problem after all...

By 2021, the population of earth will be about two billion, give or take
ten million or so either side.
Capitalism can't work. It has utterly, _utterly_ failed and what gobsmacks
me is that in all the talk of 'budget cuts', elections, solutions bandied
about left right and centre, no one has the balls to stand up and say
'capitalism is a failure'. It's all about treating the symptoms whilst the
cancer that is the system, carries on happy as larry, polluting the planet,
causing wars and maintaining untold billions of people in a situation akin
    to slavery.

[1] or more accurately, food that the thieving bastards who produce it will
have priced so high that more and more people will not be able to afford it
