Oops... Tyre pressures

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Wicked Uncle Nigel, Mar 5, 2009.

  1. The ol' GTR was a little squirelly this morning. "Hmm..." I think, "the
rear tyre's getting a bit worn, wonder if it's that".

Then the "Rear Tyre Pressure Low : 20 lbs/in2" caption pops up on the
console, with an accompanying Big Red Light.

Ah. That would explain it then.

Fuckwit, I really should press that button more often.

that's nothing. I was out on my 'blade one time, and thought the
steering seemed a bit slow. Checked the tyre pressures, and there was
~10PSI in the front. That'd do it. Amazingly, it'd taken me about 20
    miles to notice.

How does the real time pressure monitor actually work - is there a
    transponder in the wheel/valve?

It's in the wheel. I assume it's powered by some sort of moving weight,
since it only works once the wheel starts moving.

Or the sensor's in the right place - the sensor's are passive and
    powered by the receiver AIUI?

The ukrm way is to think you know how something works, while being quite
    wrong about it.
And flame anyone who points out your error.

My bruv has just had the rear sensor changed on his GTR, as it stopped
working. The dealer says it should warn at 30psi (it has warned my
bruv at that pressure, before it died), he also reckons a few people
have had similar problems with the sensor.

As 20 psi seems awfully low for a warning to be of any use, maybe its
    worth having it checked out?

Turns out I've got a slow puncture in the rear tyre, so it probably
    dropped below 30 overnight.

Tyre's fucked anyway, so I've bought a new one.
