Opinion on taking test on 500 when practised on 125

    Hi,

Looking for opinions here - I am sure I will get them. I have been
practising on a Suzuki 125. I am due to take test after bike failure
on morning of first test. I can't have confidence the bike will be
fine during rebooked test as the fault is intermittent and hasn't been
    isolated.

Am I mad to think about taking a lesson on a restricted (Suzuki)
500 then doing the test straight after? My thinking is after
forfeiting the first £60 test fee I don't want to spend yet more money
on getting a restrictor put on a 500, if I pass on a 125. Also, it
will be difficult to find a restricted machine to test ride - so I
would be buying a Honda CBF500 on the recommendation of the dealer.
I'm looking for a machine with an upright riding position but not so
extreme as a Harley. I like my Suzuki 125 but when it runs out of puff
on the slight hill out of Cockfosters to Potters Bar I realise I need
something a bit bigger to lug my weight around. Could go on a diet I
    guess - cheaper.

    Ta,

    Clive

Try on the 125 and book yourself in for a DAS course anyway. If you
pass, you can rattle around in the 125. If you don't, then you still get
to do your DAS and get a sensible bike.

The deer farm is gone. Not too sure what they are growing now. Lots of
    logs piled up though. ?

Remember that there is a big difference in weight, so DAS is fine, but
if you have learnt on a 125 then there is a significant difference in
the way the bike handles, especially during low speed turns. I dropped
my 600 a couple of times on off cambers after passing the test on a
125 (before all of that DAS malarky)

Take a few lessons on it until you are used to the difference in size.

    Cheers,

    Paul.
