Optimate Says "No"

I had planned on using the Daytona this weekend, in what may be it's
swansong before outing it; so given it has the factory fitted alarm
that flattens the battery after a while, in a stunning bout of
thinking ahead I decided to attach the Optimate for a couple of days.
Except only the Power LED lights up. Switch the ignition on - nothing.
Make sure the Optimate's OK by plumbing into the Ducati - yellow
charge LED comes on, so it looks like the Daytona battery is destined
    for the tip.

Hopefully the local bike shop to where I work will have a suitable
    replacement.

I had a similar experience recently with the Wing.

A bit of hard pounding from a standard charger might shock it into life -
    worth trying first.

Ditto the FJ, but it's just easier to back the Triumph out and hit the
    starter :)

Same here for the 748, on both counts.
It is on the Optimate though...

I could actually be tempted to out the RGV and replace it with something
a bit more suitable for cross-town commuting like a DR-Z400SM.

But I know the next time I ride it I'll fall in love with it all over
    again.

    So, third bike it is...

I took the R1 for MOT today and had to jump start it from Andy's van.

I got them to replace the battery while I was there.

Or not as the case may be. After 14 hours on a car charger still no
signs of life. I tried jump starting using the car, but the bike would
run with the start button held down, but would die once the start
button was released. New battery time.
