Optimum weight for a motorcyclist?

Vaguely remember an article in the late seventies about the optimum weight
for a motorcyclist. I think it was around/over 11st 4lbs (or whatever that
is in new money). Seem to recall that the chassis became more stable if the
    rider was this heavy?

Has my memory gone tits up?

  2. No idea, but the ideal weight would depend on the bike ridden and the type
of riding undertaken, surely... And thus every bike own is deserving of a
rider of around 6' tall and 85kg in the nuddie..... well that's what I
    tell myself anyway.

That was then. The optimum weight for a motorcyclist has gone up to an
    elegant if ample 14st dead.

So you don't think a person who's 6'2" and 16.5st will fit well on a
    ZX-10R then?

Only I've just got this here bonus cheque...

So that's why the 10R is a bit flighty.

Purely financial. Only reason the Thou got sold was because I was
buying the new house, not because I didn't want a bike. Bikes are a
pure toy for me and if the money needs to go somewhere else, it gets
re-directed. I can afford a new (well, not quite new) one now so I'll
    get one.
To be honest, I was mostly planning to get another Thou the same as
the old one (well, the K2 model) because I really liked the bike. But
    I've never had a Kawasaki...
Thanks for the offer. I'm not rushing into it, because frankly, it's
not the weather for buying bikes at the moment, but I'll give you a
call when it gets a tad warmer. Wouldn't want to bin someone else's
    on dodgy roads either.

As Champ suggests but something in a price range that you are not going
to have to get rid of it. I'm sure you are never stumped for (say) three
grand. Plenty of nice kit in that band.

Sensible budget is 4-5k. This one should be a keeper because not only
is the new house done an dusted, money is already in place for all the
alterations it needs, and I've cleared all my debts. So there
shouldn't be any reason to need to get rid of it unless I get bored of
    it.

As you say, plenty to choose from.

Loads of K2 1000 and 750's in that range. Buyers market. 5 might even
get you the current UKRM clit bike (1).

    (1) a modified B12, what did you think I meant?

Yeah, I know, I've been monitoring Biketrader since the Thou was
sold. I'd really like a K6/7 GSXR750 but I doubt I'll find one in my
    budget.
Don't like 'em. Basically I like sportsbikes and that's it. The only
possible wildcard would be a KTM Superduke, but again, the budget gets
    in the way.

I could, but modern Fireblades have never really done anything for me.
Up until the ZX10R it came down to a GSXR or an R1 for me.

I've been to the gym this evening for an assessment/intro thingy. They did
a blood pressure/heart rate test as part of it. Good news is that my
resting heart rate is 58. Bad news is that my blud pressure is 194/107.

I've been told to **** off and get a doctor's note.

That beats my record. (hang on, that's not a good thing, is it?)

I managed 175/95 when I saw the doc the other week, but it's back down
to more normal 125/70 again now.

You might find it worth getting one of those £10 blood pressure monitors
from Lloyds pharmacy and testing at different times of the day. It
would appear my BP tends to go doolally on conference calls. :)

10R's have a horrible riding position, Gixxers are much more
    comfortable.

Good advice. My mum's BP rises to 190/105 when visiting the GP. I think she
    rather likes him.

At home her BP is a stable 135/70 with the help of medication.
