Does the Highways agency have a legal responsibility to grit the major roads it says it is responsible for? The A5 though MK at the moment is just sheet ice all the way along its length (bar the newly tarmac'd stretch). No sign of grit on it this morning, none this evening. Coming home tonight, passed 4 cars on my side and two cars on the other side parked at interesting angles. At 40 I could feel the car just constantly slithering all over the place so backed off to 30. Came round a slight bend to see a car span out and sitting the wrong way in the slow lane about 150 yards in front of me, two other cars between me and it braking and trying to avoid it, I dipped the clutch and feathered the brakes as much as I dared but the arse end still swung out a few times and then gently swung round 140 degrees and my NSF kissed the central barrier. Of course by the time I'd got it facing the right way and moving again the other spinee had fucked off so I couldn't stab them with bits of headlight. Crinkle cut LH front wing, corner of bonnet and fucked indicator and headlight. Oh well, it's only an old M3. New light bits ordered from EBay and make busy with the lump hammer this weekend. Now can I claim compensation from the Highways Agency for failing to grit the roads they're responsible for? I'm guessing they are putting far less grit down in the belief that it is cheaper to pay out for compensation claims rather than buy 500,000 tonnes of grit.
