    Hi.

I will be building a site soon and then I will want to host it. It's
a business site and I hope it'll get a fair few hits. Anyway, I am
looking in advance for a hosting company. I currently use xcalibre

    http://www.xcalibre.co.uk/index.html

for my personal site with the web100 package and its seems to be
always there when I want it. It's got a very nice nd intuitive
control panel for access to all the webby bits which is also nice. If
I want to add a new email to a domain it takes about 7 mouse clicks
and the typing of the name.

However there are loadsa ads in the webby press for companies that
give unlimited bandwith, pay you for doing it and free frogs etc. But
are they any good and do they have a good control panel? ie one my 80
year old mum could sus out.

Anyone got any experience of this stuff? Reccomendations please?

    Thanks.

"Pay you for doing it" and all that shit sounds very much like an "ad
supported" business model. If that's what you want, fine.

BTW, if you're after a /reasonable/ amount of unlimited bandwidth, drop
    me an email.

Site5.com ... but honestly it's like putting your finger in the air ....

I'm going to hijack this thread as I don't think it's worth posting a new
    thread ...

Just bought a new PC ... was hoping to move my video card across, but it
    seems this[1] won't fit into this[2] ...

So, I need a new card .. how much? [3]

[3] Bearing in mind the PC cost me £350, I don't want to spend a lot.

    This[1] is an AGP card, this[2] is a PCI-E slot. This[3] gives you a
nice chart comparing reasonably current cards. There's a "best gaming
cards for the money" article here[4], but they're probably overkill for
what you need, so work out what's likely to work for you then buy
    something along those lines.

Cool, thanks for the heads-up ... looks like an ideal resource for my
search! I'm not fussed about the gaming capability but want my second screen
    working .. miss it already.

My first review of Vista, actually quite nice .... from what I hear don't
upgrade from XP, but on a new machine .. not bad at all. Have to replace
some hardware though as drivers not Vista compatiable .. e.g. CyberphoneK
    and bluetooth adapters.

Maxdata £350 computer from ebuyer ... pretty good for the money. Glad to be
    shot of my old shuttle.

Oh, anyone want to buy an old shuttle computer?

No probs. I had a bit of an oops when sorting out my new computer.
Bought a PCI-E card, but didn't realise the one I went for needed a
special PCI-E power cable from the PSU.
I'm finding it easier to use, and it's quite nice. There's a few bits
and bobs that haven't worked quite right for me too - my Soundblaster
doesn't work 100% but the on-board sound does. My many-years-old tv
card doesn't work, but that's not quite surprising.

[1] although I'd expect it to be on this setup

The French outfit have registered all of my domains, and their website
interface [1] is relatively straightforward. They give you one instance of
MySQL, CGI scripts, PhP (4.4.x I think), space for photo albums, stats &c.,
ten subdomains and ten e-mail addresses, all for (in my case) 14,99¤ a
year. Domain registration without hosting is even cheaper at 04,99¤ per
    annum.

No, that was just me inventing blather. There are many ads offering
stuff, but I couldn't be bothered getting their exact wording so I
invented shit. No Ad supported stuff wanted.
    Thanks, I'll do that soon.
