TOG doesn't have anything as new-fangled as a television, he still keeps

    double daisy type thing.

It's an obscure Genesis reference, I know.

Obscure! Bloody obscure! I'll give you obscure!!

It's probably *the* most famous Genesis song ever.[1]

[1] Excluding those known by all the Jonny Come Latelys that think "I
    Can't Dance" is classic Genesis.

Bollocks is it. While I'm far from a massive Genesis fan, I do know a
lot of their stuff, but I've never heard that song, as far as I know.
And I was around in the 70s too, although TBF the only time I saw
Genesis was post-Gabriel, on their Abacab tour in, err, 1980?

And there was me having you down as a "Friday Night Rock Show" kind of
    guy.

Assuming you've listened to a fair amount of rock; AOR, prog, heavy or
otherwise, I'd be surprised of you'd never heard it (or some of it).

Then again, it never got a lot of airplay for the obvious reason that
    it's 23 minutes long (IIRC).
I saw them at Wembley Arena in 1981. I think that was Abacab. Or
    maybe the later, self-title album.

I have tickets for their Twickenham show in July.

Quite possibly. But that doesn't make it their most famous song, does
    it?
    Well there you are then.
My memory is vague on this - it could equally well have been 1981.

Surely, something can be famous without everyone having often heard or
    seen the thing in question.

OK - I guess I was seeing it from a Genesis fan's POV. To be fair, I
would say that for the majority of Genesis fans, when asked for a
famous Genesis song, would answer "Suppers Ready". This may not be so
much the case amongst people who have only heard later, post-Gabriel
    Genesis.

In that case, I'll go for Turn It On Again.

I still wouldn't say "Suppers Ready" was obscure, just that I'll admit
it's probably not the most famous[1], OK?

    [snip]
    A quick Google[2] shows:
    Duke 1980
    Abacab 1981
    Genesis 1983

    [1] Although still "up there".
[2] I'm not quite Phil L just yet.

Quite modern effectively, then. Everything is relative, Alison.

Listen, bucko. Genesis as a band are fucking obscure, so just one line
from a little known song they wrote is even further and further back
into the depths of obscurity. In other words, it's so obscure it almost
    doesn't exist.

    Lozzo, Jan 16, 2007
  16. What - all 28 1/2 minutes of it?

Think of the Greek word for beginning and add long songs and Peter

  19. Hang them all!

Mind you - I quite happily stumped up the money to see Genesis at Old
Trafford later this year. Even bad Genesis is better than 90% of the
    pop-pap on the radio.

  20. Or 28 minutes for the live (and to my mind better) version.
Swine. By the time I tried to get them (10am on the morning they were
    released) they were sold out..

So I've ended up at Old Trafford.
