Lead off reports on CBS news this morning was unsettling to say the least..
The financial report was describing the Dow Jones, etc. being up and the
thing that impressed me was the glowing details of our robust economy which
is expanding .. Good news, right ?

The following report was advising us that GM is cutting back to the tune of
30,000 jobs and although they were not considering bankruptcy, their
financial condition was very shaky, due to the economy.. Retirement funds
and insurance coverage for employees were mentioned as being the causes for
their problems, as well as the loss in market share..There was inference
that the high cost of fuel shared some responsibility..

Shortly thereafter.. those courageous purveyors of news, reported to us that
more than half a million jobs were lost due to Katrina and Rita.. Hundreds
of thousands of victims of those hurricanes were expected to be evicted from
their temporary homes because they were unable to pay their rent..

Sure don't make sense to an east Texas country boy.. In my day, if I didn't
have a job to support myself, the economy wasn't doing worth a shit and some
idiot telling me how strong the economy was, couldn't convince me how rosy
    things were..

The enemy of America isn't in Iraq or Mexico, Jerry.. Not much to think
about, here.. The real enemy is in Washington, DC and American voters.. Most
of your criticism of Mexico is dead wrong .. There are a lot of things wrong
in that country, but I contend that if Americans would bother to visit that
land and it's people, away from the obvious touristy areas, they'd learn a
great deal that would benefit our own country..

One perfect example is the GM crisis that is looming.. The familiar theme
that is immediately recognized is the claim that retirement funds and the
health coverage benefits are a large contributor to their financial
problems.. The UAW has represented those employees over the years and have
contributed greatly to the prosperity and past successes of GM.. Now, those
benefits are under attack by the company.. Why is labor always the first to
be asked to make the sacrifice to save their jobs.? Management will
continue to award themselves contracts of obscene salaries and benefits..

GM relocated assembly plants to Mexico in search of cheap labor, remember ?
Didn't cure the financial problems they now face.. When will we learn that
organized labor is all of us who work for these corporations.. While
corporate management continues to rake and scrape the profits from the
corporations, the ones who are actually on the line and producing the
product are told that we must make sacrifices to save the company, or lose
our jobs.? Witness what the airlines have done to the employees who made
their companies great.. Pension funds disappearing, sacrifices in wages and
other committments of compromise.. shortly afterwards, jobs are lost and
retirees are left holding the bag.. The taxpayers then are responsible to
stand good for those losses . Corporate corruption is causing our country to
become a nation of welfare which is funded by who else.. taxpayers.. Then,
we point our fingers at the ones who are forced into the welfare recipients
by those corporations, instead of the policies that enable this to happen to
all of us.. WE are labor .. organized or not..

While we tolerate this corporate corruption and support the political
representatives that pass laws, make policy and accept corporate support, we
are getting what we vote for.. The ones among us who declare that politics
isn't of interest to them, are deadly enemies of the country we live in..
Politics affect us all in every day of our lives..If we take no interest in
who is representing us in government, and what they are doing in their
office, we are advocating our own hardships ..

hmmm.. I don't know if Sputnik is going to make the run, or not.. There's an
awful lot of good men in TMRA 2 who will be running for various offices
around the state.. The upcoming political season is just around the corner
    and should be interesting..

Hopefully there will be challenges for every incumbent ..

LOL.. Holy shit.. Talk about "prisoner torture" Yup.. I got a good chuckle
    out of that little tidbit..

Reminds me of a friend of mine.. He was one of the highly repected Dallas
finest.. Motorcop .. Long timer, for sure and ready for retirement.. He'd
responded to a call of some kind of domestic violence.. The guy had violated
a restraining order and returned to his house.. The assumption was that his
soon to be ex-wife wasn't in the mood.. the guy was horny and she wouldn't
    co-operate..or something..

My friend got too rambunctious and when all those cops showed up, he really
got pissed.. pulled off all his clothes and took off out the back door.. My
buddy chased him and finally got him cornered in a vacant lot.. They went
round and round for a bit.. Other cops finally got there to help subdue the
    guy to handcuff him..

Sheesh.. that dude didn't weigh 130 pounds and his buddies started razzing
my good friend about having to help him take the little perp down.. His
response was.. "Well gee, guys .. you ever tried to take down a naked guy..
shit there ain't nothing to grab hold of".. Ture story and it was on the six
o'clock news as well as in the newspaper.. He should have had one of those
    taser thingy's..
