OK, for the novice that's curious about some blues, where or with who would
    I start?

Well, first of all, piss your woman off so she leaves you.
Then, don't feed your dog, so he dies.
Get a big stick and knock a few roof tiles off so the rain comes in.
Oh, and keep waking up each morning.

Curious in what way? Do you want to play it, sing it, listen to it,
    feel it or swallow it?

If listening, you've still got a fairly [1] wide range:

Do you want 'old time' acoustic blues like Robert Johnson
(May I recomend Keb Mo) John Lee Hooker etc.

Then there's B.B. King, Albert King, Albert Collins etc for electric blues.

Don't forget Stevie Ray Vaughn for some Texas Blues

Or do you want blues/rock, like Gary Moore (not all of his material by a
    long way).

Perhaps you should watch 'The Blues Brothers' [2] and start from there

    [1] misspelled 'very'
[2] one of my top 3 films.

Donegal Paul fascinated us all by saying...
First, get the missus to leave, then watch your dog being run over. Put
your children on the game and start taking drugs, then write a song about
it. That's usually a good start.

Listen, perhaps thinking of learning to play harmonica.
Perhaps, not sure how that sounds
    blues.

BB King, I love some of his stuff.
Probably one of my top films too along with Alien and Christine

Christ, month one more like. Me thinks I shall have to acquire a blues
compilation CD as suggested further on in the thread and go from there.

:These are pretty good shows produced by my local Pacifica affiliate - if
:you don't mind streaming on RealPlayer.
    :
    : Rhapsody in Black W, 10:30 PM - Midnight
: Blues Power TH, 10:30 PM - Midnight
    :
:Also, there is a eight hour time difference (PST). The WPFW sister
:station [1] offers Blues Plate Special (pretty comprehensive sampling of
:diff forms of da blues) and other mixes and it's only a 5 hour diff
    :(EST).

Silly me, sent it 'fore I was ready.

Anyway, to stream from my local Pacifica affiliate KPFK:
    http://www.kpfk.org/
Click on Programs/Schedules and look up the ones I mentioned for more
info. Hopefully these play at a time convenient for you to listen,
    Paul.
