    Fairy nuff, I'll look there.
To be fair, you're hardly likely to get people phoning you up saying
they love their BG maintenance contracts are you?

What about the other gas/boiler repair contract providers out there?
Taking into account the number of contracts they have out there, do you
get far fewer calls complaining about them, percentage wise?

Who do you recommend as the best? (not interested in small local
companies as they'll never have staff available for call out when you
    need them)
You're really not coming over in a convincing way, you know.
What do you do for a living BTW?

Only slightly, it resembles a polo mint now. I'll re-wrap it for you

See? Toooooo camp. I've told you about that before.
I'll put it into the backup pile.

  6. It's been available 'real soon now' for a while. I wouldn't hold my
breath, as it looks like it's having some serious trouble with
reliability or even fulfilling its promise.

Heh. I notice the pdf mentions it produces 1kW per hour. Eh?

Err, a hell of a lot more than that actually. Our system is something
    like this:
    http://www.viessmann.com/fr/products/System-Technology/Oil-fired-boilers.html
Scale can be inferred by looking at the control panel on the top.

With an additional heat exchanger for the heating systems, on-demand
hot water, but with a built-in reservoir thereof (keeps water hot for
about 2-3 days even when turned off) and seperate pumps etc. for
    underfloor and rad heating circuits.
Hah. As if I'd be taken in by such scams.
I reckon we've saved the cost in reduced fuel bills, down to both the
efficiancy of the boiler itself ( the boiler room doesn't even get
warm anymore) and its very clever regulation of the heating systems,
whereby radiator water temperature is related to external temperature,
such that they just get luke-warm if it's just a bit chilly, but
proper hot when it's freezing out. All very adjustable, complementing
the theromostats on all rads, and as I said, saving us at least a
couple of thousand euros a year in fuel (at leat years prices, not
    current ones).

Interesting, there's a suggestion of links to gas pipelines. This was
in Warninglid, Sussex and there's large LPG storage depot nearby.

  14. I had a 12KVA standby diesel genny built into my old house. At one time
I experimented with using the waste heat from the cooling jacket to add
to the heating system of the house. This gave a significant boost to the
system. I often wondered about cooling the exhaust which vented above
the gutter height but condensing exhaust gas would have been a problem.
With the genny run on red diesel it was a winner.

I had the genny installed as when I first had the house built as there
were regular power cuts, as the supply was 11KV over head that went
through several forests and woods. We needed power all the time as we
    pumped our own water.

After they cleared the trees from the lines I ran it mostly once a month
for an hour as a check.

A sort of Cat 3 power supply.
Statics with batteries backed up with a diesel genny.

The infamous Bristol hum got quite a lot of attention at one time. Human
hearing has a wider frequency range in some individuals. I suspect some
can perceive what would normally be considered infrasound. I know of one
poor chap who had the opposite problem and couldn't bear to be in the
same room with many TV sets because he could pick up very high
frequencies (though not in to dog whistle territory IIRC). Then there is
the vexed question of stimulation of the auditory system if in close
    proximity to mobile phone masts.

A noise inspector's lot is not always a happy one. Some troubled
individuals need to be dealt with very carefully.

If you want to waste a Sunday morning on hums:

  16. I may have been unlucky, but my Vaillant one was shite. Broke regularly,
cost a fortune. Currently have an Alpha, as reccomended by a heating
    engineer aquaintance.

  17. That was the experience with my Vaillant too, and no fucker except their
own engineers seem able to fix them. Mine was early-mid 90s.

    Hmm

I pulled my Vaillant 242 out after 21 years. During that time, I had to
replace the secondary heat exchanger and the fan

    not bad really

Make that two because I've used BG for years and even when there's
been a problem they've always been quick to clear it up.

When I lived in Northampton I took out the BG cover on my CH system
and obviously they checked it was ok before giving me the cover then
about 10 years later I started to suffer from a lack of hot water.

A quick inspection showed a basic problem with the way the water
supply was moved about the house and BG told me that to put it right
would cost me about £1500. I reminded them that they'd been taking my
money for over 10 years after they'd checked it out and given
everything the green light. They then offered to do the job and charge
for parts only so I reminded them again how much of my cash they'd had
over the preceding 10 years and at that point they did all the work
    FOC.

This took about 30 minutes on the phone going up the management levels
with each call until I got a regional manager who just listened to
what I had to say and then told his guys to do the work FOC. I don't
look on this as being bad management, more a case of somebody shitting
themself because there was a problem they should have insisted was
rectified before they offered me warranty.
