Just had the tax reminder through for the cage today.

    No 6 month option.... Pah....

    12 Months : £20

    Oh ok then.

Driving a Diesel Mini Herse has its benifits after all.

I was quite pleased with my £30 renewal too. Disproportionately so when you
think how the VED is only a very small part of the cost of running a new
    car...

I'm sure it won't be long before the boundaries to get cheap [1] tax get
    shifted even further down.
I don't think anyone was expecting the manufacturers to respond quite so
quickly and get so many vehicles eligible.

Quite. The VED in mine is £215 IIRC. The equvalent of just over three
    tanks of fuel...
    How cynical!

<fx:aside> How many cars on the market are zero rated for VED now?
ISTR there were about three when it came in, and two of those were
    electric.

I did a search - apparently there are loads, the Prius of course but
otherwise mostly small hatchbacks with Stop/Start:

And on a new car that's depreciating by thousands a year......

Still , it's a psychological thing that worked on me.

Still not many that are zero rated, but there's also band B and C which are
£30 at most, so they are still damn cheap.

That includes some fairly large cars like the Skoda Octavia , BMW 3 Series
    or VW Passat

I thought the RAV4 was bad, until I picked up the civic...£240 per
    year.

just as well as I didn't buy it to reduce costs.

    Indeed.....

I couldn't bring myself to buy three in a row, so decamped to Fiat instead.

its a car. goes well enough. totally different to the RAV4,
unsurprisingly. drinks far more juice, you only need to look at it and
    the guage goes down.

one day old, covered in orange juice from the small child. just as
well I'm not precious about these things.
