Our local news in the metroplex area has been consumed lately with reports
of a ten month old pit bull pup that was badly abused, stabbed several times
and then burned by dousing gasolene on her and lighting it..

When this horrible story hit the news.. an extensive hunt for the maniac
that would inflict such pain and suffering on an animal, was launched..
Treatment began on the dog and intensive efforts were made by some of the
best veterinarian expertise in the area.. Little more than one week later,
    she died..

The fool that inflicted all this hurt on the dog has finally been
apprehended, charged and locked up as he should have been.. Anyone who'd do
such a thing to any living creature is nuts and should be isolated from
decent society.. btw.. I see where he's bonded out of jail this morning..

I'm reminded of an incident that impressed me when I was very young.. My
grandfather was the proud owner of a team of mules which he'd owned long
before I was born.. When I was about seven years old, one of those animals
was being led into the barn, after a hard days work.. For some unknown
reason .. the mule panicked and bolted.. He ran through a partially opened
door and smashed through the wall.. falling outside in a crumpled heap..
Examination of the animal revealed multiple injuries, one of which was a
broken foreleg.. A veterinarian was contacted.. no phones available to our
family, back in those days.. The vet carefully examined the injuries to that
mule and I remember vividly when he explained to my grandfather, the
treatments available, the pain the animal would be subjected to during those
treaments and the expected success or non success of that treatment.. With a
trembling voice and tears in his eyes, my grandfather walked to the house,
without a word.. When he returned, he was carrying a rifle and he knelt
beside that animal he'd raised and respected for all those years.. That old
man dearly loved that old mule.. They'd worked hard together for many
years.. My grandfather shot his prized animal . As a child.. I can't
describe my horror at what I'd just witnessed..

Later .. my grandfather explained, that mule would more than likely have
never recovered.. The treatment would have likely, only extended the
suffering he was going through.. In his mind, my grandfather was humane
enough to end that suffering for the animal that he was responsible for.. He
missed that old mule, terribly.. But, we never spoke of that incident again,
    as I recall..

From pictures that I've seen of the poor dog that was so brutally injured,
I'd suspect that, as well meaning as they were.. the ones who made those
efforts to save that animal were futile and only extended the torture that
she'd already been subjected to.. Many advances have been made in all areas
of medicine and the incident in my young years was another time, but.. where
do we draw the line.. Perhaps .. that pitiful and beautiful animal should
have been put down, in the first place..Quite possibly, that would have been
    the more humane..

Now.. there is another announcement being made in regards to all this
incident.. A Memorial Service for that poor animal is being planned and
promoted.. Sorry, but I just can't seem to rationalize this kind of
emotion.. Don't we have enough tragedy involving human beings to feel
    remorse for ? Regards
