    Yes, but in dictator style politics it's usually someone doing something
    dodgy, "because I can, I want to and you can't stop me". In religion, it's
    people doing dodgy things, "because <Diety of Choice> told me to/said it was
    the law, and prove he didn't."

    Whilst both showing equally dodgy behaviour, at least with politicians you
    *know* they're being dodgy. In my mind using religion as an
    excuse/justification is worse than just being "honestly dishonest", IYSWIM.

  3. I agree with your second point there - because they have corrupted
    something that is supposed to be a moral authority into something to
    support their own (immoral) ends.

    Typically that kind of thing goes with dogmatic thought. In North
    Korea, the leader and party are treated much like a fundamentalist
    religion.
