I'm trying to remember where I first encountered it. I'm sure it was in
some '60s SF book. I thought it might have been Stranger in a Strange Land,
but probably not. Current top suspect is The Unicorn Girl by Michael
Kurland, which also alerted me to the existence of the I Ching, but I can't
check this because I haven't seen my copy for 20 years or so.

Only the one? You surprise me.
Mine are (mostly). Maybe I'm odd.
It stops? I've normally nodded off by then.
Me too also as well, unless you count Peter Lehmann as a pusher.
Personally I don't. The first one wasn't free.

Ah now. My knowledge of the I Ching I can date to 1981 when I lived with
Kathy, who was 22 years my senior, wise in the ways of the I Ching, and
    horny.

    Bless her.

Well, ok. Maybe a couple. But only one who was really good at it.
No... mine used to be. Just not at the moment.
The "click" wakes me up. I'm too jumpy.

    Until June.

And of these days I'll figure out how you worked that out.

    Christ I hate maths-literates.

    1981 + 22 = 2003
    2008 - 2003 = 5

Amazing how the years slip away - before you know it, you're a grumpy old
    ****.

See, it's always obvious once it's explained.
No one told me when to run, I missed the starting gun.

    S'wot I mean.

Maths is a closed book to me.

I regret it more than I can say. If I had my druthers I'd be a
physicist, but even elementary maths has me boggled. It's not something
that pleases me in any way, but it's undeniably true.

  19. Now who is doing the 'my specific overrides your generality'?

Sure - in a small/unknown band gig context they may well have a point
(although it's usually more easy to tell[1] - if people don't like you
they tend to not bother to stay to the end anyway) but I don't think
it's applicable in a general fashion. Especially with
big/established/known bands anyway - people pretty much know what they
are going to get before they get there..

  20. Well yes. Although as I've said before most Prog bands I've seen (apart
from the big ones) don't tend to go through the encore stuff. And most
of them definately qualify as small and virtually unknown..
I think you'll find that the crowd don't want the encore per-se - what
they want is their favourite/best known/expected closing tunes played.
And would be happy for the time spent clapping and waiting for the band
to come back out to actually be used to play more music..

I realise we are going to disagree on this!

    Phil.
