I know we've done the first record ever bought thing, but a chance
encounter with someone else's ipod last weekend reminded me of the
album bought with first pay packet after leaving home.

It was Rave on Andy White and this track (snippet here)
http://www.andywhite.com/awmp3/vision.mp3 has been going round my head
all week. It's 21 years since I first fell in love. I'm somewhat
    depressed by this fact.

Over the years I've got a lot of my old vinyl on CD. Has anyone
bothered with a USB turntable? What are they like?

With the Beatles. A similar coincidence with romance. 'Help' was on the
box the other day, that really set off memories, being the film I took
SWMBO#1 to see on our first date.
Dunno. I use an old-fashioned job and a 'phono box'.

    Belfast singer/songwriter/poet.
    Will do.
The belt on the Linn has stretched, hence my not listening to vinyl
stuff for, um about 3 years now. I really ought to get it fixed.
Some stuff isn't on CD though.

Sucking his keyboard for inspiration, Lady Nina typed:
I bought one a few months ago after I had found a stack of old vinyl that I
thought I had lost, but haven't got around to using it yet, so I'd be
interested to hear from others. Mine was about 60 GBP, if that's relevant
    for you.

If you've got a soundcard that takes phono then a proper turntable
(with built-in preamp or use your own) would be better. I use
    http://www.ripvinyl.com/ for splitting the tracks.

I threw away a turntable a couple of months back, you could have had it
    had I known.

The Project one is pretty damned good. But apparently youonly use it
    once. Want to go halves?

Oh it wasn't anything special, generic marantz thing of one of their
late 90's midi-stereos.. I no longer own any vinyl, so there seemed no
    point in keeping it.

Heh, my business partner used to do that with the seemingly endless
promotional discs we used to get in the mail a few years ago.

  15. We still have the one on the hi-fi in the lounge. The hi-fi we haven't
used in about 5 years - if I want to listen to music I stream it off my
server upstairs or listen to internet radio..

How times have changed. It has double-cassette decks an everyfink. To
think of the hours I used to spend carefully making up compilation
    casettes for the car..

My car is old enough to still have a tape player, so I still listen to
the top forties from the 80s that I lovingly recorded.

****, I've just earwormed myself with 'happy to be stuck with you'.
