My Win XP laptop prompts for drivers for a usb flash drive. Why?

Everyone else's laptops work fine. It's not fair.

    Any ideas?

Around Christmas you should always have a nominated driver.

We regret to announce that your drive is cancelled, due to driver
displacement. We do hope your computer use is not too inconvenienced.

Have recently seen that exact problem, when somebody tried connecting a
USB 2.0 device to a USB 1.X port. The problem went away when the USB 2.0
device was connected to a 2.0 port...

Maybe a missing driver for the USB-port on your laptop?

Is it prompting for the driver with the George Medal?

Count yourself lucky. I needed to move files from one PC to another so
used my USB key. It worked fine with copying the files from the first
PC. Plugged it into the second PC, got distracted and then after a
while tried to use the mouse- it was hanging. Took the USB key out and
it was hot enough to have made the plastic flexible.

Fucked the USB port on the front panel up and stopped the PC booting
until I disconnected it from the motherboard.
