  1. Heading down to Bargemon for a week at my mates villa on the Sunday before
    May BH (6th).

Any recommendations on (cheap but clean) hotels around Boulogne Su Mer for
    Sun night ?

I don't really want to head back up North to that v.nice one in Escalles as
    recommended in here before.

Monday - the sat nav will no doubt point me at Paris and the periph-er-freak
A16-A6. Is it a Bank Holiday there; and so will it be quiet ?

Or should I stick to my tried and trusted Reims - Troyes - Montbard N71/D980
route back to the A6 ?

  2. Ta Bruce.

Are premier like F1 where you share the shitter/shower/pillow with everyone
    else on your floor ?

The one in Sant Quentin (Pic) looks like a good place to stop - iirc its
    quite a nice town.
I do when I get down past Lyon - normally head in via Grenoble/Gap rather
than following Jane's instructions to go via Aix.

  3. Lucky bugger. Stayed there twice, in a villa called (IIRC) La Maison
    Blanche. Lovel;y place.
Chepy. Auberge Picarde in Chepy. No argument. OK, so it's an hour from
Boulogne (and that cracking on), but accept no substitute.

  5. You're not wrong, the villa is by itself, behind Bargemon on the way up to
the abandoned military village used for training.

The views from it are spectacular, hopefully it will be warm enough for some
    pool time ;-)

Looks "spot on" from google.... got a link that someone who doesn't speaka
    da linga might use ?

I'd normally stop in my fave just out side Beaune, but a 18.00hrs crossing
    wont allow that !

    Regards.

Nice and accurate description, that is.

Mind ewe, I do use them occasionally if I'm just passing through a
    place.

  8. I must say I use Campaniles if I'm stopping anywhere on a Sunday night,
because they always have their restaurants open whereas most provinical
French hotels close theirs on Sundays.

You always get a decent breakfast at a Campanile, too.

All the hotels are run by franchisees, and (I think) they're all
couples, including a smattering of gay couples.

While the rooms are stamped out of the same mould, and ditto the
buildings and restaurants, the guvnors have a certain leeweay in that
they're allowed to put on their own specialities and choose a selection
of local wines as well. Go for the Plat du Jour and the Vin du Mois and
    you hardly ever go wrong.

They're not as cheap as they used to be, but that's partly down to a
quality upgrade. The one I stopped in a few years ago, in the south,
even had air conditioned bedrooms, shock horror.

No, they have en-suites, although they'e sort of pre-fabbed units with
a shower, toilet and sink in about 1.5 Sq m. Perfectly reasonable
though, and like F1 have a double bed and a single above it.

Also like F1, you can turn up at any time of night and just use a bank
card in a machine to 'check in'. Very simple and perfectly fine for a
    one-night stop.

Indeed. I remember trying to hustle a BMW K100LT (dreadful bike)
around that road and *nearly* losing it when the front tyre broke
away. We stayed there twice, a bunch of us, using the villa the first
year as a base from which the guys could go to the Bol for the
weekend. I remember a conversation with the wife of one of our lot
when I rang to tell her we'd got the booking for two weeks in
    September.

"So, yeah, we've got it. That's great, because it'll make the Bol
    weekend easier."

"The Bol? THE BOL?!?! You lot are going to the Bol?"

    "Er, um, er, um, well..."

"DID MY HUSBAND KNOW ABOUT THIS?"

    "Er, um..."

"He did, didn't he? I wondered why we were going in September...."

"I expect it just slipped his mind...."

"So you lot are leaving us with the kids for a whole weekend while you
    go to the Bol?"

    "Whimper...."

They got divorced a few years later.
