BBC4 showed Cockles & Muscles with hard subtitles last night. I enjoyed it.
Being BBC4 they will undoubtedly show it again soon. Friday 04 February
    12:00am BBC4 to be precise.

"Directors Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau combine the charm of Eric
Rohmer (Claire's Knee) with the sauciness of Roger Vadim (Barbarella) in
this delightful sexual romp, which makes splendid use of both its Côte
d'Azur locations and its engaging ensemble cast"

French title is "Crustacés et coquillages" if you want the French version.

Yes, there's a bit of cottaging but just as much going on with the straight
couples. Nothing graphic just farcical in a good way.

    it's rubbish.

If you must watch french cinema, see "13 Tzameti" or "La Haine",
or..."La Nuit américaine"...or even "Le Dîner De Cons" instead.

Le Dîner De Cons was on last week. French farce can be a little hit
and miss but this one's a corker.

well, at least see it instead of the pathetic American remake[1]

[1] on a related side-note, has there ever been an American remake of
a European film that was better than the original? I'm not saying
there hasn't been; just that I can't think of one.

Apparently the remake of Let The Right One In is better than the
    original.

I haven't seen it, though, so can't confirm or deny this.

Oddly enough, this is not as well-known in France as you might think,
if my (leftie) French acquaintances are any guide. It doesn't have
many French actors in it, because they didn't want to ruin their
careers. Given that the film was banned in France, they may have been
    right.

I do sometimes wonder if it's just a case of which you saw first. If
it evokes a particular response in you, then it's almost guaranteed
that a different interpretation won't match up to it.

But I'm not a movie-phile, so wibble flip.
