He means the butler said "If you had watched it, I am confident you
would not have disliked it, Sir."

You don't think he watches films /himself/, do you?

I liked Last Action Hero too, but that should come as no surprise. I
thought Arnie enjoyed himself making it, too - and that adds to it for
    me.

I bought it in 'straight' 2D, on BluRay. It looked absolutely lush on
the big plasma and sounded very good too, which is about all one can
ask for. I even enjoyed the film - the first time around.

It got wearing as LittleBoy was about to appear in a school production
of AiW and based his character of the Mad Hatter on JD which required
repeat viewings. This, in turn, justified the BD purchase as he just
about wore the disc out, and was suitably then mad on stage, far
removed from his usual introverted self (and dragged his oppos into the
effervescence) and he was absolutely buzzing afterwards.

When the next gen of 3D tellies come out and get better reviews than
the current crop I will consider moving to one, but not yet. Further,
as it is so chancy at the flicks as to whether a film uses it well or
not, I'll stick to 2D, TYVM.

You have to be careful with things like that. Especially at your time

    I Iike this para :

"Even Michael Bay, director of Transformers and reigning antichrist of
artistically bankrupt blockbuster cinema, says he is "not sold right
now on the conversion process". Which is rather like Max Clifford
declaring that he's worried about certain forms of press coverage
lowering the general tone of news reporting."

    heh.

Right, that's twice you've used that recently and I always thought it
    was shoo-in.

Am I missing some in-joke here?

  16. **** the inaccurate bollox posted by children and merkins who know ****
all about our language and it's ways. Try a little knowledge of the
language by those who actually can speak it. It is shoe in. Dunno what
it's origins are but it is not uncommon in the civilised south and given
he who speaks in grunts knows it as well then you can consider it
widespread and our collective wisdom the accurate version.

Ya know, I may be iggorant and unedumacated, but I think you'll find
the OED says the first usage was around 1923 in horse racing circles,
and it was spelled shoo in. Of course, the OED could be wrong.

I find it incredibly intrusive, which I suppose is exactly what it's
designed to be, but I want to be sucked into the story not constantly
    reminded I'm watching a film.
