    There's plenty:

    http://www.independent.co.uk/opinio...ed-the-brutal-reality-of-britain-1651722.html

....and that's just from a cursory glance at the main site.

Yes, she's getting a bit more now. But until her death, there was at
most one article on the front page of the website, and it was easy not
to click. It's not like she was plastered all over the front page, à la
    Daily Mail ..

My point was that in choosing one's news source, the 'Jady Goody Saga'
    was relatively easy to avoid.

    Indeed.

I was actually surprised that her death only made the #2 slot on the
BBC evening news yesterday, after the inheritance tax doo-dah.

Yep, I 'got' most of the news concerning her, from here.

Well, yes, I agree it's very easy to skip something in newsprint, but
don't you also listen to the radio news and watch TV news? Less easy
to ignore that, unless you can time your "going to make a cup of tea"
    to perfection, of course.

I find the Mail quite amusing (or should I say '"amusing"'?) for this.
I mentioned Jade Goody to a mate last week. Born in London of a French
mother and an English father, he's bilingual of course but more
important, he's 'bicultural'. Mention a TV show from 80s Britain (he
was born in 1973, so most of the 70s is unknown to him), and he'll know
it. Likewise for French shows from the same period. He remembers the
Miner's Strike, and the abolition of the death penalty here. Quite a
fascinating bloke, really. Anyway he was like, 'you read the fucking
Daily Mail??' 'Well, no,' I countered. 'I _laugh_ at the Daily Mail'.

He now has the Mail in his iPhone bookmarks and says it brightens up his
daily metro ride to work no end.

We get Sky and Al-Jazeera here. Until she died, Sky was relatively
parsimonious in the coverage given to Goody.

I think I do that with adverts, whatever the medium.

Yeah, and Natasha Richardson would still be here, if she'd let the first
paramedics examine her .. and my father (z``l) would still be here if
he'd not been so stubborn about going to see a doctor etc etc etc...

    Loads of 'ifs'.

When the Grim Reaper comes for me, I might be too 'stupid/proud/lazy' to
    get medical attention. It happens.

I've often suggested such a thing to explain my ability to remain
ignorant of 'modern culture'. But in this case it's even been on the
main page of the Telegraph, as well as every single UK news bulletin
I've seen in the last two weeks.

No normally I'd have been able to ignore even that, but the
international furore over her BB comments must have registered her
name in my brain, and try as I might I can't get rid of it.

Rubbish. Even Shilpa Shetty thought her attack was motivated by
    ignorance, not racism.

Normally I'm happy to laugh at posts being edited, but personally I
regret Jade Goody's passing and, even more, ukrm's reaction to it.

  18. Possibly. I think chronic stupidity is contagious, but then that seems
mostly reserved for the US newsgroups, like reeky.
