If you liked NASAs,worldwind, you're going to love Google earth.

Clearer images, (I can see my house from up here) and a tilt mode that
lets you fly over and through the landscape. I just wasted an hour
retracing the trip to Perth, but flying above the road.

Oh, and it's a much smaller download than worldwind.

  2. I can't be bothered booting my pirated copy of windoze only to have it barf
at my video card, forcing me to install shit I shouldn't need to only to
get viriid (new yank word) and then have to move to the big smoke for
    broadband.

It's already taken us off air twice. Boss just can't seem to concentrate on
    his job :)

    I only missed a 30 second standby

Worldwind has the 3D with tilt mode too and still works when you're offline.
The NASA sat images aren't as clear as google, but their coverage is far
superior. I can see my house on both. MY old local council had some other
maps on their website.. I could see my car.

It's _not_ live you know. The pics of our area are several years old. Shows
a building next to our office that was demolished two years ago. And a
yellow car in our carpark that belongs to an employee who moved on 18 months
ago and has since sold the car.

The resolution of both World Wind and Google Earth suck outside metro
areas. One of the big advantages of WW over GE is WW's extensive
geographical place names. GE's grid overlays are pretty poor on the
    edges of the images.

Anyway, I've paid nothing for both, so what do I expect?

Who's done a fly-by of their favourite motorcycling routes, and posted
    the tour data?

I think you've got to go to Iraq or Afghanistan or Victoria for the live
    version.

  11. I think they have updated Perth recently, my place now has grass which I put
in at the beginning of the year. Maybe the building is gone now.
