Some people have settings than make the following appear in Google Groups:-

'Note: The author of this message requested that it not be archived.
This message will be removed from Groups in 6 days'

Why would anyone want to do that?

  2. It's how Google deals with x-noArchive settings.

Lots of people use it so as not to be archived in the public domain
    forever.

Yes, but why? You make a comment in the public domain, some ****
somewhere will archive it, so why not allow it to remain on GG where it
    can be searched?

  4. I do it because I have had "disputes" with people who have raked through
previous postings across a number of groups and then turned my comments
against me in order to try to get some leverage. Not pleasant but it
only takes one such experience to make one reconsider.

I have also been bollocked twice at work for stuff I have posted.

In the light of those experiences I try to minimise my "exposure". Also
a reason why my posting volume has declined somewhat.

I accept your point in another post that stuff gets fed on to other
boards but I have to control what I can.

    4ax.com:

there are some other websites that archive UKRM. We get the occasional
    moronic post from such places.

I suggest you Google for them...

You don't fancy going down the TOG/Champ/WUN/Blaney/YTC/etc. route then, and
just remove your real name from your posts? They all used to post under
their real names yonks ago. We'd still know who's posting, but it would add
a degree of anonymity(sp?). Having said that, I'm no longer sure just who
    used to be who.

Personally, I couldn't be arsed, but then I never say anything controversial
    and I don't have employers.

As long as you post in your own time using your own connection, what
business is it to your boss what you post?

I wasn't talking about hiding identities, rather just obfuscating it a bit.
Anybody that really wanted to find someone's true identity, will do so
easily, even in the case of TOG (who I seem to remember had some nutter
accusing him of some bad stuff), anyone hanging around here for a few days,
would soon see references to irl situations and put names to monikers.

  17. About stuff at work or to do with work? I wasn't even allowed to
respond to a public consultation, issued by the Mayor, as a private
individual. I checked with our HR department before starting to draft a
response and was told that to do so would conflict with company
policies. Even suggesting it infringed my right to free speech cut no
    ice.

You really need to see the relevant policy to understand what it says
and how far it can stretch.

  18. I don't see the point. Someone else got a severe bollocking and they
posted under a pseudonym and were still found. They no longer post at
    all.

My posting style and use of words is fairly distinctive so I think it
would be a pointless exercise. The only real alternatives are to quit
    posting or quit the job.

  20. Not on this group - sorry I didn't make that clear. You wouldn't know
    the individual.
You may only have a six month wait!
