What's our resident troll on about now? Unsurprisingly I never see the
    postings.

Still trying to justify grassing up a poster here to his employer for
posting something to which he objected, in aforesaid company's time
    and on aforesaid company's machine.

I'm all in favour of stopping crims but I do sometimes - no,
frequently - wonder about the motives people have for informing.
Especially when they tend to keep it quiet at the time.

There are a million crimes in the naked city. Strange that you only
selected this one. Equally strange that you kept it *very* quiet,
seeing as you're so proud about doing your civic duty.

I'll go with the percentages. Motivation was spite.

in fact, I have had a contract of employment previously which states
explicitly that any intellectual property I created, even if outside
of company core hours, and on my own equipment, belonged to the
company if it decided the IP infringed on any aspect of the company's
    business.

Of course, it also stated that no employee was to consume alcohol
during company time, and we *really* kept that rule pretty damn
    strictly.

    Yep, that's in mine.
I don't think that is explicitly in the contract, but there's all
sorts of separate business policy we're supposed to follow / moderate
    behaviour to accomodate.

Mine at McAfee had that clause. It was added retrospectively though, and I
refused to sign it. Not that it bothered me much, but I was just a rebel
without a cause at the time.

By way of "compensation" there were pretty big bonuses for successful
patents applications, if I remember correctly. American companies have every
    letter of the alphabet patented.

I think you mean copyright, not patent.
Toys R Us also has the backwards R locked up, and I think Apple may
have the lower case "i" copyrighted.

You're still proud of your efforts aren't you? If you ever struggle to
understand why so many people would be happy to see you dead then
    there's your reason.

Inadequacy probably sums it up nicely but there may have been a bit of
    envy in there as well.

I was exaggerating with the alphabet reference.

They can't have Zee, I've got a friend called Zee; she'd have to change

One company I worked for went even further: if the intellectual
property infringed that of the company or any other company in the
    group.
    But what defines 'company time'?

My blood pressure goes up when I see people using "quantum leap" to
mean "a very big jump" but I guess I'm SOL on hoping that it'll ever go
back to meaning what it really means!
