When trying to defrag my drive I get an error:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Warren\Local Settings\Application Data\IM\LEX\FRED

To try to sort it I went to the file and renamed it FRED to try to
delete it. Whatever I rename it to it always comes up with a window
asking if I want to Format Drive C: . It does give an option and I
    always say no!
McAfee (bought and paid for), PConPoint (bought and paid for) and
Registry Mechanic are not picking this up.
I am running WinXP Pro; Firefox; Incredimail ....

    Please help. :(

The file was called LEX but it can be called anything and still comes
    back with the same response.

Take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

What was the file called before you renamed it?

So, you're saying the file was originally called "C:\Documents and
    Settings\Warren\Local Settings\Application\Data\IM\LEX\LEX"? Just that,
    no extensions?

You say you get an error when you defrag. What *exactly* does the error
    say?

Is there anything interesting in the Event Viewer (accessible by
right-clicking on "My Computer" and selecting "Manage".

In front of above it says: "Disk Defragmenter cannot continue prescan
because there is corruption in file:

No extensions. File comes back as empty and I get the response above
    when I click on it.
    TIA

  7. If it is an Increadimail folder, then indeed, you dig your own pit with
    that shit.

  8. Try renaming it to something with an extension - a dot doc or something,
then try deleting it. Also, have a look at your start-up script/bat or
whatever and see if that has been trying to run the thing for some daft
    reason.

If I were you, I'd do a backup of the data you *do* want. Now.

IM is complete and utter bollocks. Back up important stuff now. I
suspect Ewido will sort it out though, but I'd start by un-installing IM
    from the control panel.

Always sage advice. I'm not convinced there is anything actually amiss
at this point (other than IM), but better safe than sorry
