Ot Hey ho...Best start chilling now I reckon

  1. She didn't like my blood pressure, 190 something over something that
causes much sucking in of breath it was.

Actually I was a bit surprised as it goes because I was doing my usual
get there a couple of minutes early and meditate trick to hide the truth
from them, while I was in the waiting room. Out of practice I reckon.

So, my pot is half full, I got me flu jab which was the whole point of
    going round there

Only half full though coz I have got until Monday afternoon to re-
present myself with a slightly less stressed vascular system or I will
    have to, "See The Doctor."

Welcome to the club. No alcohol for you this weekend then. Worth the
pain if you don't want to start down the medication route. Once you are
on the little pills you are on them for life (at least that might be a
bit longer). TBF I don't get the headaches I used to anymore which is a
plus point. At one stage my quack had me on a diuretic as well as the
'blockers'. Fucking inconveient it was if on a chilly morning ride. By
dint of controlling my diet (which I also needed to do for other
reasons) I managed to get my blood pressure down enough to be allowed to
    cut out the diuretic.

How is your 'bad' cholesterol level? That will be the next thing they
home in on when you get hauled before the 'well man' clinic.

The sins of the parents - both of mine had heart problems (can't blame
heredity on them though) but they loved fatty food which they also fed
    to me.

The quacks hate me because my BP is low, despite the visible evidence
of a, er, um, slightly indulgent lifestyle.

The Doctor bought herself one of those portable testers at Christmas
(Lidl were flogging them, believe it or not) because she's been warned
her BP is on the high side.

So she decided to try it on me after she'd taken her own reading. I
didn't want to (ignorance is bliss, IMHO), but I knew I wouldn't get
anypeace until she'd tested me, so gave in.

110 over 71. Apparently that's very low, but it means nothing to me.
What do the figures actually *mean*, anyone? And what's 'normal'?

Mine is hereditary and chilling has no fluence on it.

The first thing they did was put me on a 24hour monitor thingy.

this was the day after picking up a new bike (and of course was riding
    the thing to the surgery).

that was about four years ago and I'm now borderline for the next up
of the dose of the tablets.

Bad form - but I just realised you don't drink (alcohol anyway).
    Totally salt free weekend then.

In general, people with low blood pressure (hypotension) live longer.
In general, people with high blood pressure (hypertension) die younger.

Fainting due to hypotension while riding is bad however.

Temporarily. I wonder why does Adie's link mention:
    "Change your lifestyle:
    stop smoking
    lose weight
    exercise regularly
    ****cut down on alcohol****
    eat a varied diet
reduce stress by trying different relaxation techniques, or by avoiding
    stressful situations.

I don't drink. Well not much. Well actually much but not often and
then usually only at my local where I do tend to get righteously
blathered but insufficient to be sent to Dodgers Point in disgrace.

This is fine, if you have enough prescription drugs or are poor enough
to get a season ticket, otherwise it is cheaper to buy non prescription
    drugs imho.

I've stopped wanking too. I just can't be bothered anymore.

Wouldn't know and don't want to either.

I can blame hereditary but mostly it is topped off by the pies and the
fags and stress. Stress is very bad for the set I am in, apparently.

It might be low for your age, but seems pretty much normal if you ask
    me.

First figure is pressure when your heart pumps, second is pressure when
    it rests.

Mine was 110/70 last time I had it taken, highest I've seen mine go is
175/80 when I was a little bit stressed... Apparently 175/80 is not good
    at all.

    Coo, numbers.

    Or me.

Do you really want to know? I mean *really*? Would just the numbers
alone be enough to change your lifestyle significantly? Could the
    claret industry take the hit?

Propaganda and mind control. I think the word is overused in this
context, average would be better. Much more easily ignored and who
    wants to be average anyway?

  16. As it should. Mine peaks at about 120/80.
The doctors surgery is not a good place for taking blood pressure -
people always have higher pressure there because of the stress and
worry of going to the doctors..
    They offered me one[1] - I turned it down. I don't get flu[2].

See now that is stupid. I learnt this when I had my bypass thing and
was under suspicion of being in possession of a dicky ticker.

Start the preparations an hour before with a bowl of porridge, a good
shit and yer last fag for a bit. Meander, in foot, in no tearing hurry
round the quack so you arrive in time to read all the official looking
notices in the waiting room. Sit down, do a bit of karma settling and
read only the kids comics. Do this and the quack will start doubting
his machine. Especially if you have been the week before and did it on
the bike after having "just a little ride" first.

The difference in the numbers is quite considerable.

  19. 140/80 here - top of the limit for my age apparently and I should have
made a repeat appointment with the nurse, but ummmm haven't got round to
it yet. I need to do more exercise before I go back.

It has become a bit habitual for me. I have never really suffered with
flu like some folks but when The Mother of Them All got seriously ill it
was suggested that we have it as a family to ease her situation. It

Wondrous stuff, a miracle even, so I continue with it.
