I was in Grenoble for 10 days. I decided to take a day trip to Geneva on a
Wednesday. Turned out it was a fucking bank holiday and almost everythig
    was shut.

    Check the Swiss calendar.

  3. Monday is, I think (according to the 'man and dog' whom I have to see), so
    Tuesday should be OK.

    You can:

Visit the UN (They do guided visits, never been but apparently its worth
    it according to friends)

Check out the Jet d'eau (2 minutes tops though cos its not that
spectacular, centre of town just off the Pont de Mont Blanc but you can
    see it from miles off)

Dunno if theres anything to see at the Red Cross, maybe worth a shot.

Check out the Old Town, nice place that. If you are there in the evening
its the place to eat and drink some bevvies. I can highly recommend
Shakers nightclub in the old town for late night entertainment. Of the
    aupair variety.

Visit CERN, as Ivan said. Microcosom thingy. I've never been to the new
dome thing, so maybe do that and tell is whats in it.

Other than that, oggle at totty by the lake if the suns out.

Transport wise, use the buses. They have the best network I've ever
seen. Taxis, well, make sure you have a wad of cash, they dont rip you
off but are uniformly expensive. Probably much the same as Paris though.

    Pete.

  8. I was a student there. Lovely place, especially in winter.

Yes, I quite liked it. The Italian Quarter had some excellent restaurants
and the Arab Quarter was nice in a seedy sort of way.

  10. That's a bugger, otherwise I'd have told you to go and have the world's best
fondue at Café Huissoud, rue du Stand. Big plate of viande sechée, several
bottles of fendant and a fondue, eaten off scrubbed tables in a warm and
friendly atmosphere. Open a bank account. Walk up into the old town. Buy
some cigars at J-P Grisel in the place Longemalle. Mooch, grab a coffee,
hit the old bookshops; it's a lovely city just to wander around.

  11. Don't you need to be a) rich and b) a citizen to open an account ?

  12. Well, things may have changed but I did it with CHF10 about 12 years ago. A
bit more there now, thobut. Sure, the private banks - there have been a few
mergers lately - want to see some worthwhile wedge, but even then I was
offered account facilities by a couple of them because I was in the same way
of biz. No, go to one of the biggies and simply ask for a form. It'll take
    about 15 minutes.

  13. This is interesting, as Readers' Digest told me the other day that I'd
been put on 'the shortlist' for 500,000¤ [1], so I can get my account
open and ready for the money ...

[1] and we all know that they never lie ..

Testastretta. Or of my ... ah fuckit, you can come to the barbecue at my
palatial 15-bedroom mansion in the Bourgogne..
