My ISP is crap and wont give me an addy for their nntp server (If they
    even have one) prodigynet.co.uk

I've tried various obvious choices to no avail.

Anyone know of a free newsgroup server I can use as google groups is
    crap.

I found aioe.cjb.net but this one seems to be 4 days out of date!

    Please help.

http://news.individual.net/ Not free, but 10 euros/year will hardly
cripple the bank. No binaries though so no good if you're a perv.

Well, that's no fucking use, really. Spend 10 euros and buy into the
    German Server, like he said.

I find this odd. My isp are Force 9 and I have no issues regarding nntp
access with them. Are you being less than honest with regards your
    identity with us then?

Or he could use the non-posting ones and wait for a "Rivvy barn meet"
thread and then run off and meet everyone.

Well put it back where you found it then.
That is most interesting, I am really pleased for you, however, reading
my initial post you will see that my ISP is prodigynet.co.uk
Correct, I have written my actual addy in several posts

    zanziba@my_teeth.zanziba.prodigynet.co.uk

Perhaps this link might be of interest to you then:

    http://www.prodigynet.co.uk/menu.php?page=metered&home=true

This appears to be their cheapest offering and includes usenet.
Presumably their other plans would have it also.

  9. Why do so many people this is a hysterically funny way to munge their
    email addresses?

    Remove:

my knickers, teeth, your pants, your bra, your finger from my arse,
    whatever....

Yes, I know what their website says, I am a member, but they do not
give you the server addy. I have tried news.prodigynet.co.uk,
    news.prodigynet.com, news.prodigynet.net and nothing works.

I have e-mailed them twice and they have failed to resond.

I am thinking of switching back to force9 but not sure if I can be
arsed with all the messing about (direct debit, e-mail address changes
    etc.)

Because things like "SPAMKILL" are bloody obvious to a trawling bot.

But then, I forgot, you seem to like collecting spam/death threats...

Oh right. See, now you have asked the wrong question then. You have
been round here for a few days now and may well have noticed that there
are fucking hundreds of us. It is, I assure you, reasonable to assume
that some **** is with prodigynet and knows exactly what you need.

Or, if not of ukrm, you might consider asking the question in a public
forum that is more appropriate. Perhaps somewhere where prodigynet
themselves might have a read interest if nothing else.
Email again and ask why they have not responded and ask for escalation
    in the matter.

    Christ asked:
Some programs trawl for e-mails on newsgroups, once they find you you
get spammed to death. I had to change my e-mail addy from the one above
due to getting well over 50 spams a day.

    Andy was very helpfull:
Unfortunately I have tried that and think it is for a different company
with a similar name. I am beginning to believe that prodigynet.co.uk
only give newsgroup access to dial up pay as you go and not broadband
users. This might explain why they are refusing to reply to my e-mails
    in the subject.

All reference to newsgroup access is restricted to their dial up pages
on their website (Steve can verify)

I will probably pay for access somewhere, or use a free service to
read my news and post using google.

But there's plenty free software available that'll sort the good from
the bad, and even if you don't do that you can just use an account that
    filters spam.

    news.prodigynet.net can be pinged.

You're obviously doing something wrong with the setup.

    Steve was very helpfull:
I think that is the correct nntp server addy but that it is restrcited
for dial up users only, not broadband. All references on their website
to newsgroups are on their dial up accounts. Time to change broadband
    ISP?
