  5. Tangently talking of which, that mad bastard Dimbleby was rabbiting on
the other night about the Scottish Parliament building and how cool it
    was inside.

From what I saw of it, it's a fucking disaster; dreamt up by some Spic
architect who was wanking over his drawing board. An utter waste of
space (literally and figuratively) and a sinkhole for £400M.

I presume you don't just mean the IMC that I passed in '97.

Two weeks with the text book, and you'd walk it.

    Or are you doing IIMR?

Looking at the site, there's an option to split the paper in two.

"The IMC is assessed by testing knowledge of all eight topics through
multiple-choice questions. The IMC is a three hour 15 minute
examination with 155 multiple choice questions. To help ensure
consistency of testing each examination includes 15 questions, which
do not count towards the examination score. Alternatively candidates
may sit separate papers for each unit.

Unit 1 - UK Regulation & Markets is assessed by testing knowledge of
    topic areas 1, 3 and 4. The Unit consists of 51 multiple-choice
questions in a one hour 5 minute examination. To help ensure
consistency of testing each examination includes 5 questions which do
not count towards the examination score.

Unit 2 - Investment Practice is assessed using an examination testing
knowledge of areas 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8. The Unit consists of 104 multiple
choice questions in a two hour 10 minute examination. To help ensure
consistency of testing each examination includes 10 questions which do
not count towards the examination score.

Passing the Units at separate sittings is accepted as being equivalent
to passing the full IMC at a single sitting."

  11. Trust me - this is an architectural wound that time will not heal.
If the overspend was all and the building had some redeeming features
(eg, pleasing to the eye, etc) I can understand that. The SP building
    has none of that.

Not wishing to (re-)open the linux vs Windows, or open source vs MS
debate, but to suggest that it's a 'standard' when it's not been
adopted by the browser used by probably 90% of all internet users is
perhaps just a little bit naive.

Whether you like it or not, IE _is_ the de-facto standard; if IE
doesn't support it, it's not a 'standard' in any meaingful sense of
    the word.

I ask myself that question every single working day. Trouble is,

  18. Become a manager and rise high enough that you have peons to do it for
    you.

Thats my plan anyway. And I just get to do the intersting bits.

That's where I'm at, in theory. Trouble is, I find myself having to
all the nasty bits, like implementing a project methodology[1], and
never find enough time to actually do the fun stuff.

[1] I'm quite happy designing it, but making people use it, like the
validation stuff I've been in charge of for the last coupld of years,
    can be a right PITA.
