OT Keeping her small

"Parents of a severely disabled girl in the US have revealed that they
are keeping her child-sized in order to give her a better life. "

This is an odd one, not as easy as dangerous dogs or parking charges.

    So thoughts anyone?

I'm afraid I just can't get past the yuck-factor on this one.

Having said that, the reasons they give that refer to "preventing
possible sexual abuse" lead me to think that they're deeply fucked in
    the head.

I can understand the "small" thing from a handling/weight POV, but the rest
of it is creepy as ****. The "Pillow Angel" bit suggests they see her as
some sort of pet or ornament, and their comfort in discussing this aspect in
public tends to indicate that they're the product of a very sick society.

  5. My thoughts too.

Why not just top her and embalm her? Just as decorative, and a lot less
    hassle. Cheaper, too.

I'm not convinced there's really much wrong with this, although the
breast bud removal seems a bit strange.

There's always the possibility that there's some paedophile feelings
going on, so wanting to ensure lack of fertility and child-like
appearance having an ulterior motive, but I tend to doubt they'd be so
public about it if that were the case.

If she's the size they want her, can't they simply bonsai her by
trimming a couple of inches off her legs and arms occasionally as she
    grows?

Why don't they just stand further away from her every year?

I can appreciate their reasons for doing it, and I'd never want to
    make such a decision myself.

But as to whether it's "right" or "wrong", I dunno.

Very difficult. My instinct is entirely against it, except that its a
simple truth that her life (given she has to remain in bed) is going
to be a lot more comfortable if she stays small.

So - a positive dunno from me.

Why don't the authorities take care of her and disallow access to the
parents as they obviously feel that they can't cope.

I sort of agree with that, I think.

I feel a bit saddened by it though, that we should be even discussing it
I mean. It's one of them modern moral dilemmas thrown upon us by or
brilliance at keeping hopeless cases breathing and we are not good as a
society at coping with the results of that sort of stuff. Hard on the
scientific types I know but I feel myself leaning towards the slowing
down a bit and letting the rest of us catch up side of the debate more
    and more these days.

Although pressure from parents for this sort of thing is not just
occurring across the pond. They had some British burd on R4 this
morning bemoaning the fact that she couldn't get a hysterectomy for her
severely disabled daughter and good luck to the yanks. She wanted it
done on the grounds that no periods ever meant a lot if shit a girl with
no mental age to speak of need have to deal with.

  18. I can see *why* they did it - but if they were going to mess about with
her in that fashion why not go the whole hog and have her euthenased?

Of course your limited world view does not include that of the mother
who, being a woman, was arguing mostly about period pains and the
possible hysteria of the bleeding bit and didn't mention the possibility
    of pregnancy.
