    1 night or several days?

For the former, use Ibis, Etap or similar for the resons stated in an
earlier thread: 24h reception, bar & restaurant open late & on Sunday.

For the latter, I'd stay somewhere like this:
    http://www.chateaulemontepinguet.co.uk/home.htm which is between Cherbourg
    & Caen.

Stayed there as part of a group of 12 in 2004. Superb food, slightly
decaying but characterful chateau. British hosts.

Looks like they have done plenty of work on it since then, converting what
    was our garage to accommodation.

Any longer and you will need a complete transfusion to degrease your blood.

Part of my family hails from Herefordshire, yet I tasted some of the best
ciders whilst in Normandy...a fine accompaniment to moules et frites.

  6. Any pointers to where it is on google maps / autoroute.

I can't tie in the map on their website, with something that I can chuck
    into the tomtom.

The hotelier lists the road as RN13. Autoroute lists the road as E3/E46

Follow this road south from Cherbourg to the D119 junction. You need to
cross back over the E3 (away from Brix as the instructions say). The
entrance to the Chateau is less then 1km from the E3 junction, on the left.

    <Fires up Mapsource>
v9 labels the main road RN13 and has a hamlet called Mont a la Quesne at
the D119 junction. Bearing in mind it was 2/3 years ago that I went there
    my best guess on a waypoint is N49 33.122 W1 33.192
