OT Memorabilia

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by brian.willis13, Oct 14, 2008.

  1. OK, I know some of you are not as young as you used to be, and indeed
some may be very old or happily with very old rellies, so I'm looking
    for some help cos:-

I'm involved in a reminiscence project for people with dementia
and their carers. We are in need of props from days gone by. These
props help by stimulating memories and forming a focus for
conversations, demonstrations etc. We are looking particularly for an
old leather school satchel 1930's/40's/50's, or similar. Really
anything from the 1920's onwards up to perhaps 1970's/80's. Nothing
too large though as we will have to store it and move it from venue to
venue, as well as thinking how to get it from you to me.

    Thanks for any items/suggestions etc.

    Brian

Yes but I don't say it put loud
Yes old photos are great, but when some of our clients handle a prop,
say an old wood plane they can really come to life as if they are back
in their workshop/shed etc. Photos rely one only one sense whereas the
real item can engage the person more fully. I heard of a woman who had
not spoken or engaged with anyone or anything for a few years pick up
a doll dressed in 1950's clothing start to change the nappy and
started talking about bathing babies. Another example was a man who
started to assemble an old Meccano model when he would normally sit
and stare, brings tears to the eyes.

Heh. I can imagine me or Lozzo in a few years hence, being handed a
Snap-On ratchet, and coming out of our dribbling haze :)

    There is no GSF.

I can state, hand on the bible/torah/koran/glass's guide, that nothing
in my house was made after 2006.

I've got an early 70s one, but I have no idea where it is - could be
here somewhere, or could be at my parent's. I'll have a rummage
tomorrow, & get parents to do the same, & let you know if I find it.

  18. I think if I was trying to get the innocent to give me their valuables,
I wouldn't ask for manky old satchels and wood planes ;-)

(No, I'd ask for manky old bits of obscure Hondas)
