  1. Anyone had a problem with a mobile phone being sent in for repair and
returned with the claim that its "water damaged" ?

  2. I'm up in Nth Qld. and have been told that high humidity
often causes phones to fail. Nokia have voided the warranty on my 4
month old phone with the claim of water damage.

  3. Not water, but I had a mobile phone which had a cracked screen.
Now you may say that it had been treated roughly
but, the screen was cracked in the inside screen, not the outside one
Nokia and Optarse didn't wan't to have a bar of it

Had a Motorola V9 hinge fail in very normal use.- warranty voided because of
'physical damage'. Close inspection showed metal fatigue and the small
plastic pieces inside showed no damage - but warranty was still not
honoured, despite calls to the Motorola head office.

I refused to pay, and went and got a new phone -not a Motorola - and
strangely none of the 50+ phones in our fleet are Motorola anymore.

They couln't seem to get the concept that 'physical damage <=> abuse by
    user'.

  5. iPhones have 3 water sensors. If it has been dropped in water the sensors go
from white to red. No chance of warranty.

  6. When I went into Optarse, trying top get a new phone, The sales girl went
out the back to speak to the manager and told him of my concerns, and I
    heard him say very loudly
"This was caused by consumer abuse and not a warranty issue"

I called out even louder for him to come out into the store and I would show
    him what "consumer abuse" was
    Strangely enough he didn''t.
I didn't get a new phone from them and bought one somewhere else

Stand your ground if it has not been immersed , complain to the
ombudsman and make sure everyone know you are

  8. Define the difference between humidity and water though? Are these
sensors able to? Go for a jog with an IPhone in your pocket and work
up a sweat. Oh dear there goes the warranty. **** that. What is the
    sensitivity of them?

Also, if you can't open the bloody things to change the battery, then
why aren't they sealed well enough to keep water out? I will not buy
an electronic device that relies on batteries that I cannot change the
batteries. I don't care how pretty it looks.

    Humidity is water you realise...

If a phone is used in a very humid area then taken into a cooler area
(say air conditioned) then it can experience condensation (water) inside
    the phone.

They don't have to be dropped in water or rained upon to become water
    damaged.

I'd suggest some type of tradesmans phone with rubber seals next time to
    avoid the issue.

  11. i've already told Nokia that if their phones dont like high
humidity then they should not be sold in Nth Qld.

  12. I've had my 6110 Navigator in PNG, New Cal, FNQ, CQ, SEQ - in & out of
    mines / air con etc

The only bloody thing that has failed to proceed is the music
player...won't recognise that music exists on the micro card

  14. I changed the battery on my girlfriends 3g iphone last night with an ebay kit.
Not that hard as long as you have 1/2 a clue and use some care.

  15. Pretty much. They go red when wet. The workaround is to stick a sliver of
    white paper in there.

  17. Yeah - but it isn't like "Oops, my battery has gone flat and I don't
have my charger (Or my Ebay kit) and I'll just change over to the
spare battery which I have in my pocket" in 10 seconds is it?

A whole clue takes the adventure out of it.

  20. Nope. But you can get slip on battery packs for them for not much money which
double the life of the original battery and can be changed over in seconds.
