    Hi,

Anyone have any recommendations for food/beer/things to do in Munich ?

I'm going out tomorrow and returning on Monday.

I know a few fave watering holes - Gunther Murphy's and the Augusteiner
Braustuben, so am looking for other places that aren't as touristy as the
    Hofbrauhaus.

I'm taking a day out to have a wander round Dachau.

Is there owt else that anyone can recommend that should be done on a 4 day
    trip.

(PS - I did the BMW Museum and ProductionMile tour last year).

A stroll in the Englischer Garten after dark can be interesting.

If you're after a place that serves decent food and beer, try the
"Fraunhofer" in the Fraunhoferstrasse. It's in walking distance from
the centre but most cabbies should know where it is. I used to go there
quite often when I lived in Munich, but then again I lived across the
    road from it.

Oh, and don't be surprised if a chair is taken by a grey tabby cat -
    it's the pub cat...

Decent and pretty cheap local food and good beer. Try the "Dunkles
    Weizen" (dark wheat beer).
    Deutsches Museum. Definitely.

Bit of a long road tho'. And it's probably closed anyway now as the
tourist season is almost over. No, I can't be arsed to check.

I don't suppose the OP thought of that.
It might be amusing to get a copy of Trout Mask Replica on the iPod
and sing along while strolling through the museum.

Having been there, I suspect one wouldn't be doing it for long. It's a very
moving and atmospheric place. I found the crematoria rather eerie,
especially when seeing the hooks in the rafters above the ovens to deal with
the people for whom gassing wasn't quite enough. It then set me to
wondering idly how many found themselves in the ovens somewhat less lifeless
    than intended - briefly.

As in further than the Austrian border down a little country lane and
stuffed with bloody septics on buses .. just down the road

If you've seen chitty chitty bang bang, that's as close as you really
    want to get to it

And if you see a table with "Stammtisch" ornately carved above the
ashtray or something ... sit there at your peril

Well, had a great time as always.
Spent a day wandering around the Deutches Museum, which was a 10 min walk
from my hotel on Viktualienmarkt. Fabulous place, and I managed to catch the
lightening demos which were superb !
Visited Dachau on the Friday with 5 other people on the tour organised by
Radius Tours. We had one of the most informative and knowledgeable guides
I've ever met, a guy called Phil who was one of those people you could have
    listened to for hours.
Food highlights - http://www.zumstraubinger.de/ was excellent, recomended by
the lady that ran the hotel over her own restaraunt !!
    Hotel was superb -
    http://www.munich-info.de/hotels/hotel-blauer-bock/welcome_en.html - Basic
but had everything you could need. No TV - which was a blessing, so managed
to finish BB's "a short history of nearly everything" that I bought at the
airport on the way out. (Tied in nicely with the Deutches Museum - wandering
    along Rumford Strasse etc etc).
Did lots of other stuff, but then if you've read this far you're probably
bored by now, so no need to go on.

Anyhowz - Thanks for the recomendations everyone, it was appreciated.

Heh, I know *that* from a few years ago when I stayed at the Hilton next to
    the EG for an conference....
Slightly disconcerting when you're lying on the grass by the big lake
minding your own business reading a book (mid afternoon), when a couple of
very nice looking mid thirty something ladies smile at you, sit down about
10yrds away and procede to strip down to nothing !!

Taking a short cut back to the Hilton after a pleasant evening in a
    bierkeller
the Englischer Garten was more like the Garden of England, or Kent,
according to BGN's description of Leas Cliff.
