The overlap period between new and old phone is nearly up. I'm getting
used to the new one slowly, [1] so it is time to accept that I have a
new phone number. Save me going through all my contacts and sending a
message and just let me know if you want it, ta.

[1] Sony ericcson k350i according to the box - it now talks to my
computer after nearly an hour with customer support. I'm not loving 3
like I did voda(ph)fone, but the deal is good, so I still owe
    Crashtofire that pint.

You do know it's perfectly possible to migrate your old number to a new
    provider / contract, don't you?

You can only do it at the time of taking out the new contract? I got
the PAC code but then decided to keep the old one on PAYG for those
once or twice a year calls/texts that I'd forget to tell.

10 plus years with the same number. I don't even know the new number
yet, I keep having to look at the paperwork. Suppose I'd better learn
    it. Bleurgh.

    According to Sony's site they don't do a K350. K530? K850? The SE PC
Suite sorted the whole deal out for me - installed the software, turned
bluetooth on, it found the phone, installed all the drivers and set up
the 3G network connection through the phone. I think I had to accept
three prompts and that was it.

Three's customer care call centre does appear to be an utter waste of
space. If people are going to be so inflexible and unable to deviate
from a script then they may as well automate the whole thing.

Text-to-speech or just have number selections all the way. I think it
would be less frustrating as at least you wouldn't expect the computer
to try to understand, like you would another human being.

I don't think so. If you get a PAC code you have 30 days to use it. I'd
ring up 333 again and see if you get someone else. If you still don't
get the right answer try calling (into) one of the shops. IME the shop
staff are far easier to deal with and better at explaining things.

So SE have finally got their PC suite working properly, then?

I had an SE phone a while back. I used a 3rd party utility, which is
    excellent. http://fma.sourceforge.net/index2.htm
I won't go back to Three. Useless coverage and piss poor customer service.

530 - I was reading up upside down with the aid of Bombay sapphire.
    <confession>

I haven't found out where the bluetooth is yet - I had to get daughter
to do it on my old phone.

FFS I am turning into my mother.
The first time I called they were crap and you could spot the script,
the chap I had today was excellent and we ended up chatting away about
the relative distances we were from the sea while the software was
being taken off and put back on again.
<grin> Did you dump yours in the end and go with someone else?

It's saved in my old phone, under new phone and in this phone as own
number. I like the YTC idea more - now how do I edit it? <grins and
    runs away>

What I've done is typed the number into Wordpad in a huge point size,
photographed it with the phone, then set the photo as the phone's wallpaper.
That way, I see the number every time I use the phone.

    Eventually I'll remember it.

    Done that.
I say! What a splendid idea.
After 18 months, I *still* have to look up "me" in my address book. I shall
adopt your method and see how it goes.

Nah, I migrated one of my old numbers to one of my new-ish phones nine
months into the contract. No problem at all, at least not with
    T-Mobile...

You're not far wrong, you know.

"Due to the current bat usage overload, four by twos are being
pressed into service as an admittedly poor substitute. This situation
will hopefully be remedied in the near future. The Ginger Guerilla
Service would like to apologise for any disappointment caused."

Pah! You just can't get the right sort of militant these days. In the
Good Old Days you'd have had a Ginga leaping to the lathe to make a bat
(however crude) from the four by two.

There's just no *pride* any more. No *standards*.

    I blame the teachers.

But a piece of four by two *is* just a crude bat. Just a *very* crude
    bat.
    Well, yes, there is that.
