I had the same problem during the great two by four shortage of 1973.
Luckily I happened to mention it in passing to a wise old hermit who
lived in a tin shack, high up in the Chiltern hills. His solution was
    breathtaking in its simplicity.

He told me to lay a pair of four by twos next to each other, & nail
them together. Then roll them over 90 degrees, & cut them in half along
their length. Amazingly, this left me with not just one two by four,
    but two!

It's that kind of thinking that leads to the adoption of inferior Far
Eastern plastic bats. From there it's a short step to nasty Nylon
nightdresses. And then where would we be?

This sort of thing needs stamping down on *hard*.

So "make a bat (however crude)" isn't what you meant really meant to
    type then?

You know what those saw mill workers are like. They knew people
couldn't afford to be fussy during such desperate times, so took little
care in their craft. Finding four by twos that were a little oversize
    was all too easy.

Yes, but surely finding the ones that were only exactly right on the 2"
side but oversize on the 4" side was a tad trickier?

Well yes, but as long as they were over rather than under sized, it was
    easily rectified.

No need to do that. Just press the volume up or down button on the
right hand side of the phone while you're looking at the main screen
(that shown the wallpaper/ network name/etc). The handset phone number
appears in the list of info.
