OT one for the bee keepers

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Lady Nina, Jul 31, 2009.

  1. Yep. And the size of colony goes down from maybe 50k bees to 5k bees.
All the corpses get chucked out the front.

I bought a book, and read it. And abandoned any thoughts of doing
    it :)

Anyone want a beginners beekeeping book ?

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Now that is cheap. Far too cheap, surely?

  4. OK it is Lidl and maybe not the best in the world but set is £1:49 500g
and clear is £1:43. The taste compared with say Gales or Rowse is much
    better.

Ah yes, forgot that. Been a while since I've been around beehives, my
stepdad used to keep bees and probably still does, but I haven't seen
    him in a long time.

OK, now that _is_ cheap. Does it say where it comes from?
Well that may be, but what about comparing it with decent honey?

  7. A blend of EU and Non EU sources.
OK I said it was not the best in the world. It doesn't have the depth or
complexity of some honey but it competes well with commercial brands. If
you are adding it to a drink or for cooking, no problem.

Decent honey would be from a friend of mine but even he has problems
with the taste when they plant loads of oil seed rape in the local
fields. In his opinion (and mine) fields of rape in bee flying distance
really ruins the taste of the honey.

That has got "complete fucking disaster" written all over it. Bees in
gardens in towns? Bees on roofs?

Madness. Seriously, someone is going to get badly stung because of this.

Well, that's another issue entirely. That's a *lot* of money for a hive.

Yep. Busted. I do like it though.

Thing is, there's a hell of a difference between one of my chickens
wandering into next door's garden and laying an egg and 25,000 bees
    arriving in their chimney.
