Malta for xmyth and new year - what's it like? Weather, atmosphere,
events, things open to amuse kids etc? Is it true the yellow buses
    have gone?

Was it warm though? I'll have books so I'll be happy. Tell steph I
think I may be in need of her special services.

Warmer than the UK yes, but it rained a lot and we even had hail one day.
According to the locals it was a bad winter so you may get better weather
than us. Most of the 'entertainment' seemed to revolve around the large
number of wrinklies who fly south for the winter.

I'll get her to give you a bell.

mups emerged from their own little world to say

The wrinklies will all return back to the UK to sponge off their offspring
    over the expensive Xmas period.

As mups said, it'll be warmer (around 16°C IIRC) than the UK, but will
rain though. You may find a lot of places are shut, as they'll cater
    for the sunny summer periods.

However, if you're in the market for the historical side of things,
then you should be okay. e.g. There's the Hypogeum in Paola, that
normally needs a reservation to see (as it's a UNESCO protected
building), but in Winter, you may not have any problems. Loads of other
stuff to see too, from that angle.

Amusements for kids is limited really, I reckon. I couldn't say though,
    as I don't have any. :)

All in all, it depends what you want really. Overall, I'd say to be
prepared for a 'very quiet time'

Oh and the buses are still there. They were orange the last time I
looked. Before that, they were Green. And Yellow before that. I think.
    :)

I hope this helps, but it may not, as when I go there, I don't do the
    'tourist thing' too much.

That long? Cor. Anyway 16C isn't hot enough, looking at cheap packages
in North Africa and the likes now. Unless someone wants to lend me a
couple of thou so I can head for the Maldives.

Muslim countries.. not my cup of tea.
    Cheap, warm..

Do Southern Spain - ideally land in one place, road trip to another,
ideally in a week you could hit 3 places.

Depends on the country and the person.
I did Algarve 4 years back, I've been getting further south every year
since and its not been warm enough. Still swam in the sea on Xmyth day
    every time though.

I dunno, I'm not one for religion at all.. it all stinks.

I'd *love* to go to an athiest country, just to see if I liked it.

The closest I spent was a winter in Norway. There can be no God after
    that.

Still, I need to do so properly.

The GDR was. Although categorising some of the more primitive Stalinist
countries (Albania as an example) would be difficult as that particular
brand of Communism and enforced atheism was on a par with religion.

You've got it all wrong, come out here and spend the day skiing. The
only problem is the excess of Septics.
