OT :Paging the airconisti

    I have just replaced the aircon pump on my MX5, with a s/h unit,
    should the electro magnetic clutch thingy pull in when I switch the
    aircon on when there is no gas in the system, or does the aircon
    pressure switch stop that happening to prevent the pump running dry?

    Agreed. Without gas and lubricant the pump would be knackered quickly.

    It should not engage unless there is enough pressure in the system.
