OT : Paging the Combi-Boileristi....

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Brownz \(Mobile\), Jul 30, 2007.

  1. If you were really hacked off with the cheap n nasty combi boiler that you
had fitted a few years ago (ours has had more grittish bass in house calls
than a cheap whore, and only produces hot water when you turn the room
thermostat up), what make and model would you get your local Corgi
    registered firestarter to fit ?

    Worcester-Bosch or Vaillant

Worcester are prolly best as they are less complicated, and I find the
pcbs and fans easier to repair

    bits he fixes.

    1. My dad's got one, and he reckoned it rocked
    2. I had one installed a year ago, and got quotes from three plumbers, all of
    whom suggested WB
    3. I get staff discount

And get one that CAN be controlled by seperate zone controls. Unlike
my WB greenstar 30he. I've all the pipes in for an upstairs and
downstairs zone and... THEN I find that the boiler can'd be switched
by outside programmers. You might not want them yet, but you may in
    the future.

  11. Ooh, sweet ! Can you get a Greenstar 27CDi for a better than retail price ?

Renumeration in beer, vino or foldy wonga available.

Same goes for anyone willing to plumb it in - in place of the Alpha POS
    thats there at the mo.

Spare room available if its a weekend job.

Seconded. A mate's dad has a big heating firm, and that's what he fitted for
    her.

My previous job was with a mechanical services engineering company.
They always used Vaillant for small domestic type boilers.

    I've got a Potterton. It's been okay, but it's not a combi.

  14. We had this problem with ours. It was correctly diagnosed by the FOAK
here as a stuck valve, and cost us relatively little to have the valve
    replaced.

  15. We've got a British Gas contract, and as mentioned, its had countless
    visits.

Seems to be OK for a few months, then the same thing, no hot water.

Totally fed up with it now and just want shot of the thing, its only about
    3/4 years old.

I've been happy with Worcester stuff.

Had an oil combi in the last house. Replaced the one in our current house
    with a gas combi.

I asked the local installer listed on the W-B website to quote for the job.
Their price was competitive with other installers so I went with them. They
have returned to service it at 12 monthly intervals and I'm confident that
we will get a good service in the event of a breakdown.

Raden's your man. Probably a dodgy connection somewhere. A badly crimped
terminal or poorly soldered joint that gets wiggled enough to work
    temporarily.

Just called them and I can get one for £738 incl VAT, plus £40
    delivery.

They sometimes have refurb models in stock (boiler is remanufactured
to as-new condition and sold with a full warranty) but they've
    currently only got new ones
