OT : Paging the Valveisti

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Brownz \(Mobile\), Jan 4, 2008.

  1. Not a miff at all, valves are inherently EMP proof and so are some
transistors these days. The reason they had 100% valve gear so late
into semiconductor development was simply; semiconductors took ages to
get hard enough to be useful for their needs.

  2. I think that was Soviet disinformation after one was flown to Japan and
dismantled by the Yanks, and the Russians wanted to salvage something
    from the disaster.

The truth, as you obviously suspect, was: Russia's electronics industry
    was decades behind the West's.

  3. I'm sure you're right (I know nothing ofthis sort of tech).

Aren't valve systems larger and bulkier and thus more difficult to fit
    inside aircraft?

  8. OK I'm with you on that, an oversight on my part.

Erm? But do klystron tubes need spark plugs?

  11. Ah, sorry, I missed that. We're getting a bit jumpy this close to
    First Beam at long last.
