OT question about frogs in rice fields...

    Hi Texans,

I've recently been having an argument with an "animal rights"
freak from Ireland about whether or not there are frogs in rice
fields in Texas. A rice farmer years ago mentioned that there
are thousands of them in the fields he farms, and this "ara"
is trying to deny that could be the case. Can anyone confirm
that indeed there are frogs in some of the rice fields in Texas,
and sometimes there are even thousands of them?

    Thanks,
    David

I did that before I decided to find out if Texans know
whether there are frogs in their fields or not. The results
are about other things that don't do me any real good...
many of them having nothing to do with frogs.

    "Results 1 - 10 of about 948,000", but they aren't really
about the amount of frogs in rice fields in Texas, and
in fact most of them have nothing to do with the subject.
    Wrong:
Your search - "lots of frogs in rice fields in Texas" - did not
    match any documents.
    Wrong again:
Your search - "lots and lots of frogs in rice fields
in Texas" - did not match any documents.
Wrong yet again, and the hits a better search could bring up that
would do me any good--IF! there are any--are so few and far between
that I decided to ask Texans about it directly. We can see what good
    that does: None.

The groups I post to are my business and no one else's, just
as where other people post is none of mine.
That's because of the quality of people in the newsgroups
apparently. So far it would appear that Texans have no clue
whether there are frogs in their fields or not, but there's an
excellent chance that people in other states would. I've worked
with Texans and gotten the impression they're really not very
aware of what's going on, but had hoped that was just the
particular individuals I happened to work with. Now it's beginning
to look like a characteristic of the state. People in another state
might say something like: Yes, we hear thousands of them at
night...or: Yes, there are lots of them smashed on the roads
running beside rice fields...or: Yes, we see tons of them on
our uncle's farm...stuff like that. Instead we've learned that
you folks don't know if there are frogs or not, and also don't
really understand Google. Oh well, all I could do was try or
not try, so I tried. I didn't find out anything about frogs, but
    did learn more about Texans.

  5. I didn't even know there _were_ rice fields in Texas; I'm certainly not
going to know if there's frogs in them.

Half the population of Texas lives in five cities and, of those, most
have never seen a farm except passing it on the freeway. Why the heck
would we know about the frog population in a particular type of farm?

Also consider that you're asking in groups about _music, guns, and
motorcycles_. You can't translate that into general knowledge of all
Texans, particularly knowledge specific to those who live on farms and
thus would know about what you're asking yet have much better things to
do (like farming) than us city folks who have Internet access.

Could you put me down in the column of those that assume that there are
frogs anywhere there is fresh water?
I can say however that it's a rarity to find a frog in a cotton field.

Yet lame, juvenile and unimaginative. Maybe top notch for a
Texan, but quite pathetic for most other more advanced areas
    of the country...interesting....

The Google search you people suggested didn't bring up things that
are related to what I'm asking. None of you seem able to grasp that.

It's a disagreement I'm having with an Irish "animal rights" freak
who can't imagine thousands of frogs inhabiting rice fields.
I doubt that. More than rice harvesters? You just don't know
anything about it living right in the area with it. How about riding
past a field and see if you hear a bunch of frogs at night?

I'll bet they still pissed like a toad when you picked them up,
regardless of what you called them :)

No, you Texan, it's because I used the quotes. But your thousands of
hits didn't do any more good than what I got, so it doesn't matter either
    way.
No, it's rice fields, and you don't have to be obsessed with it to have some
clue. Now I'm wondering if you'd be able to tell the difference between frogs
and grasshoppers even if you were in a rice field.
You can't understand Google, and now you're trying to cover the fact
up. You're really a Mexican, right?
Probably not. I don't know why they decided to call it that, but it was long
before I started asking around about frogs in Texas rice fields. It's still a good
    reader though.
Results 1 - 10 of about 10,900,000 for a pill that might help.
Thanks, it appears I'll need it.

Oh come on...just go check real quick would ya'...
I do recall Texas mostly looks like a lot of little or nothing
from the air, now that you mention it.
I didn't see any groups about Texas rice farms or you can bet I'd
have checked in them instead. I just took what I could get. But! There's
no reason to believe none of the people associated with such things in
Texas have ever been around farms, or in fact none of them are farmers
themselves. Also, I feel certain that people shoot guns and ride motorcycles
in and/or around rice fields sometimes.
A simple natural response to be somewhat of an asshole, after detecting
that aroma wafting in my direction from most of you.
What would make you think farmers don't get on the Internet? Texans
    .....sheesh...

I did know of an Aggie a few years ago, had a frog on his head.
Couldn't get it off, no matter what he tried. He finally went to the
hospital's ER. Doctor looked at him and said "What's your problem?"
The frog said "Think you can cut this wart off my ass?"

Yeah, I know... but benefit of the doubt and all. ;)

Btw, we had our club's quarterly meeting today.
We got together and rode. The weather was great.
Didn't see any frogs though. <g>
